When activated, Rikaichan automatically translates any Japanese word, whether written in kanji, hiragana, katakana, or a mix of the three. Definitions are displayed in a pop-up box when the cursor is moved over a Japanese word or phrase. Strangely enough, Rikaichan’s complexity also results in its only drawback. Rikaichan is a great tool for students and people with late beginner-to-intermediate Japanese skills, but those who have little to no knowledge of Japanese may find it slightly more difficult to effectively use the plugin.
