Production Notes - Featured Performer Rikki Wright

You write the script but you need the people, the talent to bring it to life. Without them you have pages of ideas but when the microphones are fired up, that’s when your ideas, your characters finally 'live'. 

It's a great feeling, to hear your words brought to life by such talented and skilled performers. In fact, as a writer you don't really hear your characters until you 'hear' them if you get my drift. That's when the journey really starts.

Throughout our Dark Journey (it's been pretty light actually!) of Series 1 and 2 Rikki Wright has blessed us with an abundance of talent and encouragement while providing us with a treasure trove of ideas, a range of accents and fantastic performances. He reminds me of an old school stage performer, a man of a thousand voices. As the founder and writer/producer of Zeus Entertainment Rikki has put on numerous pantomimes in the GTA entertaining audiences since 2011.

My co-producer/director Mike and I had the pleasure of seeing Rikki perform in a live performance last April at the Social Capital Theatre here in Toronto in the hilarious live radio comedy taping of Radio Project X. His timing, performance and stage presence made him a real audience favourite. He's a naturally funny guy but with a dramatic twist. And it's these characteristics that, coupled with other Brits in the recording studio, resulted in Mike almost having a nervous breakdown as he tried to control our very own Brit Invasion!!! 

Now in Episode 2 'The Case of the Poisoned Sky' Rikki once again breathes an evil energy into the twisted and sinistser Gull. A man on the verge of transformation who knows The Doctor's oldest and most ancient secrets. 

In addition to this Rikki also voices two other iconic Who characters as well as other creations making at least four roles for him in The Case of the Poisoned Sky. He says he loves having a go at these monsters ... and eating imported UK crisps and sweets while accusing me of feeding him bootleg 'Wotsits'. Rikki may enjoy bringing vile monsters to life but in reality he's a great guy, generous and kind to those around him.

Dark Journey Star in Christmas Panto

Following on in the tradition of Doctor Who actors appearing in holiday pantomimes, Dark Journey's own Rikki Wright will be appearing in Jack and the Beanstalk (Dec. 23-29th, Burlington Performing Arts Centre) It's the British pantomime classic like you've never seen it before! Expect lots of silliness and bad jokes but with a whole lot of music and dance. Tickets on sale now.
