I was thinking about how, as much as Kaladin despised Roshone, he still didn’t guess how terrible Rohone’s motives were for his treatment of Kaladin’s family. Kal thought it was first about the rumor that Lirin stole the spheres, which even turned out to be true, and later about Lirin being unable to save Rillir. Neither of those things justified sending Tien to die, but we can understand somewhat how Roshone felt wronged by Lirin. We might even feel a speck of sympathy for him.
But then came the part in Oathbringer when Laral, who knew Roshone better than Kaladin did, defended Roshone’s actions with basically, Well, your dad is highly respected in town, so Roshone’s feelings were hurt when Lirin criticized him. Also it’s super annoying how Lirin tries to help everybody. She didn’t even mention the spheres or Rillir. Clearly neither the injustice of a theft nor the grief over a lost son was Roshone’s real issue with Kaladin’s family. Instead, Roshone just saw a good man and felt compelled to tear him down because he knew he didn’t measure up to this person who was supposed to be his inferior.
