brief notes I'm typing on the go about the original chinese ep 10 confession scene lines as a follow up on @thewelloflonging 's post and for @vegaseatsass too as promised!
the original chinese line: 你就是我的小屌丝
english translation: you're my [xiao diao si]
where "xiao diao si" is most accurately translated as little loser because indeed diaosi is a slang for loser. but if you want to be more pedantic and take the characters 屌 diao and 丝 si apart: diao literally means dick, and si means silk or thread. when si is attached with the word diao, it can be interpreted to mean pubic hair (though ofc nobody really calls pubic hair that way and it's not what people mean when they say diaosi) but when you think about it, it adds to the level of insanity of lovingly calling your boyfriend xiao diao si
the original chinese line: 你迷我的就是那股小屌气
english translation: what mesmirises me is your [xiao diao qi]
as you can see this is a play on "diao si". "diao qi" isn't an actual common term unlike diaosi, but a combination of 屌 diao (dick) as in diaosi + 气 qi (energy, aura). so the correct translation for the phrase is indeed "your loser energy/aura" but it definitely does not cover at all (and tbf there isn't really a perfect way to do so in subtitles) that the dick word is prominently featured and played around with. (wriggles brows)
(additional side note: you do have the more common phrase 屌里屌气 diao li diao qi which basically would be a descriptor for someone with a loser aura but 屌气 diao qi alone is an insane phrasing especially for a romantic confession. I could have said 你迷我的就是那股屌里屌气 and it might have sounded marginally less insane lol i can't explain exactly why though!)
tldr: chi cheng cannot make romantic confessions like a normal guy and I love him for that.
