For a movie from 2002 this has aged remarkably well (assuming everyone still knows what a VHS is, but even then I still think you could figure it out pretty quickly). The whole thing totals almost two (2) hours and really paints quite a picture. It wraps up rather nicely even while leaving only a few split ends (like my pun? Since the main scary chick has long scraggly hair? No? Anyway…). The movie flowed sensibly and was very spooky throughout. Each character's actions and motivations seemed genuine with little guessing as to why they reached the decisions they made. Pretty fantastic movie all around.

A young girl dies brutally and we follow the story of her close family affected by her death. A reporter mom investigates her niece's death and stumbles upon the VHS (no, not the movie) that lead to her having only a 7 day free trial of living (woops). Hot blonde #1 immediately shows the tape to her ex because, I mean, who else would you show it to? They set off on a tame goose chase to solve the mystery. At some point the kid watches a copy of the tape and I find it frankly hilarious that our main character left the tape lying around at child grabbing height but this speeds up her need to stop the murder tape from doing what it does best (murdering). Lots of running around and creepy omens (no wait, that’s just the main kids face…) and our daring reporter finds the dead girls remains and is convinced that this story has been put to bed (though she never sleeps) except we haven't had a moist brunette slip out of any TV set yet, so the haunting continues and must be passed off to the next nitwit who is stupid enough to watch an unmarked VHS (which, in all honesty, The Ring 7-days-to-live video is something I'd rather watch than accidentally finding my parents sex tape from the 90s).
