Any recommendations for marking pencils? I've had a couple, but they were so hard they barely left any mark at all. I know you don't want them so dark that they stain, but they don't do me much good if they're too faint to see. :B
I’m pretty bad about this... often I just mark fabric with whatever’s handy.
I’ve gotten fabric marking pencils that were pretty awful, and which I think were just cheap watercolour pencils sold under a different name, so sometimes I just use my actual watercolour pencils. Those can stain though, so sometimes I mark lighter fabrics with regular pencil crayons, but if it’ll show up I tend to just use regular graphite pencil. Waterproof fine tipped pens are good too, and I have used them for embroidery designs on light fabric, but it’s important to do a sample first to make extra sure they’re waterproof and don’t bleed.
I’ve used up my entire bright yellow watercolour pencil on dark fabrics, and am now onto the bright yellow pencil in my regular pencil crayons pack.
In the past I have used those washable crayola markers for things but I don’t do that anymore, as I’ve found they are Very Bad on anything that won’t be washed because if you happen to sweat a bit or spill some water on the garment you suddenly get huge marker stains. And they’re not even very good for light coloured things that will be washed because the ink sort of gets trapped in the felled seams and bulkier bits and takes forever to actually come out.
There are probably a lot of good fabric marking tools out there that I just haven’t bothered to look for.
