It had been a long week. Training, schoolwork and some family stuff. Too much work to meet Haruka for a proper date. About that, Rin felt more than bad, so he decided to something completely not like he normally would. He wrote a letter. A sweet, honest, proper love letter.
After spending hours on it, he finally finished the letter and on his way to his mother’s place, left it on Haruka’s doorstep.
Sorry I haven’t been around, lately. As much as I’d like to, I can’t free up enough time to take you out on a date or even to just head over to your place for a little bit.
In case you’re upset that we haven’t met in forever and a half, I want to remind you that I love you. As much as you love me and the a hell of a lot more. You’re the most important person in my life, I hope you know that.
So there’s this quote by Sarah Dessen (whoever the hell she is). It goes like this:
"It’s all in the view. That’s what I mean about forever, too. For any one of us, our forever could end in an hour, or a hundred years from now. You never know for sure, so you better make every second count."
So it got me thinking. I don’t know how much longer I’ll be alive. I think about it sometimes, but I can never really know, huh? Well, existential shit aside, I wanted to let you know that every second I spend with you is more than worth it. Every. Single. Second.
And, as cheesy as it sounds, you make my forever worth living. I mean, you’re the one single thing that’s keeping me happy. Keeping me from turning into an actual bloodthirsty shark, I like to think.
Is it just me or do I sound emo, right now?
I love you. And as soon as I get some time, I’ll take you out on the best date ever. I’ll take you to the ocean, have a table set up there, with all the best mackerel dishes. Afterwards, we can go swimming or whatever. It’ll be a whole day of me making you as happy as humanly possible.
So please don’t be angry at me for not seeing you, this week. I’m sorry.
-Your Incredibly Cheesy Shark”
Haruka's surprisingly bad mood wasn't a secret anymore, at first Makoto, Rei, Nagisa and even Kou thought that he must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed that morning, yet when that mood stayed on the third day and the rest of the week as well, they figured there must be another reason for it.
And really, it wasn't that hard to figure out. "Haruka-senpai must be missing Onii-chan!" Kou noted on the third day, earning a glare from the raven who happened to overhear her words. Haruka never glared at the girl but it was his current 'normal' look therefore it couldn't be avoided.
After another day of an extremely [for Haruka] short temper, the rest of the team had to agree with Kou, Haruka was indeed missing Rin. He was reacting to the sudden lack of the shark like he'd react to a lack of water or Mackerel.
When Haruka opens his door-- exactly 7 days since the last time he saw Rin, not that he counted-- Makoto is waiting for him, he says a soft good morning and gives the black circles under his eyes a concerned look but doesn't say a thing over it, instead he hands him a letter "It was lying here" he explains when Haruka gives him a slightly irritated and questioning look "I think it's from Rin" he adds quickly, smile widening.
Haruka's eyebrows furrows and he almost throws the letter away but his hands are already opening the thing and he can't help but start reading it the second it's unfolded. His frown deepens over the "dolphin" but immediately ease thanks to the words that followed.
He almost muttered that; No, he is not upset over not seeing him forever, and who would even miss such a pain, and that he was actually enjoying the peace of mind, finally.
Almost, but he doesn't, because the next words kills off the piling up annoyance and frustration in a matter of seconds, a warm sensation starts building up inside of him instead, his eyebrows furrows again though, when he reads about the "not knowing how much longer" he'll be alive but it's soon forgotten because of the next part.
His eyes sparkles with interest, this date...it sounded interesting. Very interesting actually. Haruka couldn't help but wonder over when exactly it would happen, wanting it to be as soon as possible. Both because of the Mackerel and swimming, but mostly because of his very own pain in the ass, aka Matsuoka Rin.
When he's done reading his face in completely clean of any expression, a perfect deadpan, which compared to what it was before, shows his mood just improved significantly. Makoto comments over it and Haruka looks away, muttering that Rin was just a pain.
Both knew that he was much more than that.
