— BIO SUMMARY;
born into a prominent witch family based in mexico city, mexico who use their magic to further their power and influence in business circles. her family were very wealthy and influential, and maintained the appearance of being human from the outside. their name was well known in certain circles, but may not be a name that would be recognised widely. the tavarez family favoured mental magics that could be used to their favour in business, as opposed to physical magics which were considered brutish. beyond exploiting their magic to further their reach, the tavárez family, under the leadership of rio's father, luis, engaged in white collar crimes such as fraud, bribery, insider trading, ponzi schemes. whatever would get their family ahead
luis tavárez was the patriarch of the family, and became so at a relatively young age due to the untimely death of his own father. luis grew the family significantly and bent it to his will. rio had an older brother, santiago, who was four years older than her, and they grew up in the lap of luxury due to the position of their family, but there was no love in their home aside from what they offered to each other. their father only viewed them as an extension of himself and his image, and their mother treated them like a meal ticket to the life she wanted. they would hardly see their parents, only being brought out for photographs or events where the family image was important
once they were old enough, their father brought each of them into the business and forced them to use their magic to further the business, or participate in the crimes that fueled their family. despite herself, rio thrived in this and santiago became concerned about the influence their father could have on his younger sister, and the hunger in luis' eyes when he looked at rio - so he decided to get her out
when she was sixteen santiago had saved enough for her to get away, he put her on a plane and then a series of busses, to try and make it harder for luis to find her, and sent her to new york. rio had nothing but some cash and the clothes in her bag when she got to new york, but she worked hard, sold her magic and created forgeries to survive, until she met the selvi sisters and fell in with them
everything changed when a dying man fell through her wall, who it turned out was her half-brother, javier. he was dying and told her that santiago had died. she believed him, and when he died in her arms she used her spirit raising to resurrect him. he then left to 'protect' her. she later followed him to mexico to bid her farewells to santiago, only to find out that he hadn't been dead, and that she had killed him by bringing javier back with her magic
in a rage she decided to take her revenge on her half-brother and her father. she found a vampire to turn her, killing javier and ending luis tavárez's bloodline
with no one left, rio followed the selvi's to lunar cove

she has an eclectic sense of style and is almost always overdressed. she was raised in luxury, so knows the value of high quality pieces and invests in them. she loves vintage designer clothing specifically, and pieces that are going to last the test of time. she views fashion as art and treats it as such. she has no issues with showing skin with her clothing. her style can be seen (here) and specific event outfits can be seen (here)
she loves tattoos and has a number of them across her body (here) seeing them as another form of art. Nearly all of her tattoos have sentimental meaning to her, though there are a couple she just got for fun
though she wants to make friends and some kind of life she herself she keeps people at a bit of a distance, being naturally cautious of people, though she is making an active effort to change this and be more open/approachable. she is always down for a good time and will not say no to a night of drinks and trouble if asked

friends/acquaintances — rio has lived a life and knows a lot of people. despite her desire to keep people at an arms length she does have friends and seems to keep getting close to people despite her better judgment

need for speed even before becoming a vampire she was a bit of a speed demon, and once she tuned it only became worse, she loved speeding through the woods of echo acres on her motorbike, or on foot with her vampire speed
