Then and Now. Abandoned restaurant in Petropolis, Brazil. 1960s This restaurant was built in the Hills of Rio de Janeiro and was called “The Disco”. It was developed to coincide with the opening of the BR-040 Highway in 1950 that provided a cut through of the Rio-Petropolis mountain range.
The Disco “had a restaurant with a beautiful view and playgrounds for the kids. The view is unique and the sunset did not fade anywhere. Locals remembered it fondly.
Just as it was built however, the highway took it away. It was originally a two way which attracted customers going both up and down highway. However, a new Highway was built and the BR-040 was turned in to a one way. Business was cut in half and the restaurant was never able to recover. It has been abandoned since the 70s.
