2014- Japan- Even after 7 years I still dont have the words to put my feelings about this race into. For those of you who weren't F1 fans back then it is the most horrific race I've ever watched and the reason most of us will be screaming about safety and why its so important. Jules was a part of the Ferrari Driver Academy and was "the one to watch" and was driving for Marussia in 2014. Earlier that year he scored his and Marussia's first and only points at Monaco. The race took place under extremely wet conditions brought by Typhoon Phanfone. This made the track very wet and had extremely limited visibility. The race was intially stopped after 2 laps before being resumed 20 minutes later. Conditions worsened again by lap 40 with DRS being disabled. On lap 42 Adrian Sutil aquaplaned and hit the barriers. A tractor crane was brought out to remove his car and despite this it was decided not to use a safety car, with double yellow flags being waved instead. On the next lap Jules would spin out and collide with the crane. He was rushed to hospital by ambulance, as it was deemed to dangerous to go by helicopter (despite F1 rules stating that a race should not go ahead if the helicopter cannot fly), where he underwent surgery and was placed in an induced coma. Sadly he would never wake from it and passed away on the 17th july 2015. You're greatly missed Jules. RIP
