Happy 50th anniversary to my favorite movie of all time! I've probably missed the boat (pun completely intended) on this trend, but oh well. I know a lot of people think the audio is creepy, but I absolutely love it. It comes from a recording made by Taylor Holmes in 1915.
While the poem's themes can apply to plenty of situations, it was written specifically to convey the thoughts of a British soldier during the Second Boer War in South Africa. History does not look kindly on that particular conflict.
And yes. Yes, I did go see Jaws in the theater even though I have seen it (and this is a conservative estimate) at least sixteen times. My grandma had a condo on the Texas coast, so that was the family vacation. Back when Discovery Channel's Shark Week was still entertaining, circa 2012, lots of stores were selling the movie on blu-ray. It became an unspoken family tradition that before we went to the beach, we had to watch Jaws. So annually, not counting the past two years, that's 11 times. Add onto that the first time I saw the movie, the time I brought it to a friend's sleepover, the time I saw it in theaters for national movie day or something, and this latest viewing.
Yep, 16 times. Don't ever go anywhere with "Amity" in the name. It won't go well.
