I am very sad to say that our darling Truffle had to be put down today. She'd just turned 3 years old
TW/CW for graphic content:
Yesterday, Truffle gave birth to two kittens. At first, we just thought that the afterbirth was stuck, but last night she became weak and dehydrated, so was taken to the vet. Turned out it was not afterbirth but was her uterus, and nothing could be done to save her ☹️
This sadly means two orphaned newborn kittens, but another one of our cats has adopted them
Truffle was always a mischievous lady, but was so sweet and loving. My little sister and I named her Truffle because she looked like a truffle (the chocolate kind) and because she seemed really sweet, like a truffle, and her brother's name is Maple so it fit. When Truffle had her first litter back in 2020, my mum was worried about Truffle's parenting skills, because she was a hyperactive scatterbrain. But Truffle surprised us all.
All of our female cats have been brilliant mothers, but Truffle went above and beyond for her kittens. When two of her kittens were cuddling together in a basket on top of the sofa, Truffle decided that it was breakfast time, and climbed on top of the sofa to call her kittens down for breakfast. I've never seen another cat so dedicated to her kittens. Interestingly, all of her cats have also gone on to be brilliant parents and big siblings themselves
Truffle was a tortoiseshell, and had some beautiful golden markings
RIP Truffle, your affectionate and wild personality and exemplary parenting skills will never be forgotten
