Before posting a fic, do you ever read your own fic to yourself and think that it may end up being a bad one? And then you go through the thought of giving up? I felt that way yesterday with one of mine and I'm coming to ask for a fraction of advice. If you could grant me a piece of mind. Would that be enough? đđ»
It certainly happens. There are requests I get and when I write them I feel like its not as strong as it could have been, but I also donât want to spend forever working on something and making people wait, so its a difficult balance. The âgiving upâ aspect doesnât happen to me much anymore and Iâll tell you why.
Some writing advice in general that Iâve learned is that you have to learn to be okay with writing something shitty, because it happens to every writer. We all write âshitty first draftsâ, this was a phrase that got used OFTEN in my writing classes in college,(if you google it, youâll come across tons of resources from other writers) it was just a fact of life, we all had to get comfortable with the idea that nothing you write will be perfect and that it takes concentrated effort to make a story great. No one, not even professionals, just slap down some amazing work on the first try.
So when you write something and read through it, tell yourself this is your shitty first draft. This is just you getting out the story that needs to get out, and then you can go back through and add texture to make it better. It also helps immensely to put your writing away for a little while and come back to it later. Youâll be surprised how you feel about it after youâve let it simmer.
Hope this helps! Keep writing! :)
