Whats Over and Over? 👀

Over and Over is a yalex soulmate timeloop au fic! (Title taken from the three days grace song of the same name)

The basic premise (which I have seen only once and have been OBSESSED with ever since) is that the first time you see your soulmate, it starts a timeloop that only the two of you experience. The first day of the loop is the only "real" one and the rest is just the two of you like, getting to know each other.

Once you figure out who you're in the loop with (which can be somewhat difficult because like, you could literally have just seen them across a busy street), you basically get three years to fall in love. If you don't fall in love within that timeframe, you forget who your soulmate is and everything that happened in the loop, but do remember that it happened so you're not like, waiting your entire life for something that already occured. And if you die in the loop, you die in real life.

So, cue Alex and Yassen waking up after that meeting in Point Blanc only to realize that they're looping, resulting in VASTLY different reactions. Yassen is like "he's sixteen and made of hormones and being manipulated by MI6, just doen't lie to him and sleep with him until he falls in love with you, and then take him back to scopria's loving arms" and proceeds to set out to do just that.

Alex, meanwhile, is completely cut off from his support system and, you know, a fucked up grieving mess essentially trapped behind enemy lines. So he decides to be even more reckless than usual and like, gets himself into all kinds of trouble. And then, you know, when he finds out that yassen killed Ian has a complete breakdown about what that means

Eventually Yassen realizes he actually doesn't want Alex anywhere near any of this, and so he and Alex have to actively fight catching feelings with each other so that they have enough time to get dirt on scorpia and MI6 so they can both get out and retire once the loop is over.

This was my nano this year and has 50k+ and is still nowhere near done, given how complicated it is. But one day! I will finish!

@rirren sweet or dark? I have a few friends that ship it but none of us can seem to agree on the type of Sam/Jack that we prefer! Because I adore dark fic I'm cool with manipulative!Sam pressuring Jack... but there's something so precious to me about, like, bed sharing. Or Sam giving Jack some of Cas's clothes. Or maybe his own clothes! It could be so soft and sweet. But I can see the appeal of something darker, too.

So, I mean, like, any permutation? I know that's kind of a cop out, so let me get a little more specific.

So, I very much ship like, "just became a baby assassin" yassen and alex, since they're in the exact same place emotionally but still could be weirdly fucked up about each other

Also, I've been thinking about a verse where Book Yassen and Book Alex manage to find there way into Tv verse, and so like, silver fox young fifties yassen having his way with tv alex has been kind of like, nibbling away at my brain for that I'm trying to beat it back (also, you know, throw in some book Alex for fun sometimes, since he is that kind of freak, I think).

Also, starting to be talked into yasha (or baby assassin yassen)/alex/yassen (the 30s version).

Sorry that wasn't more exciting, but I haven't giving the permutations as much thought as I no doubt will in the future

10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you? There are several books that are haunting me, the latest is called Thrown off the Ice. It started innocently as all the other hockey books, a hot age gap rookie falls for veteran story, the smut was hot etc - and then suddenly it turned serious. The veteran suffers from severe helath consequences of his concussions, and it never gets better. What I LOVED is that this guy wasn't perfect about it like it's so often written, he was angry because his life was fucked and it went only downwards from there, he lashed out at his partner, he hurt him emotionally, he was never a sunshine to begin with - and his partner (the sunshine one who would have all the options to live a very different life than one with a diclining, disabled partner) chose at every turn to stay with him even though it was clear where it will end. That was very powerful, and hit very close to home in some aspects. So yeah that haunts me currently and will stay. (ha sorry for the length, as you can see it haunts me). For my own writing: I have one very long fic, The Absence of Hate, where I have this sequel planned out in my head, but I also know that I will not write it as I don't have it in me to write another 80-100 k... but the sequel would be so good 😂 11. Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve? This is such a funny question right after the first, as I loved the MCD book but in general: no, I am usually not in the mood for it and want a happy ending for my characters. I wrote some MCD fics myself which are easier than to read MCD, as it is not often done in a way I like. The vast majority of my books end happy though, so no graveyard - but when someone dies (also a beloved side character for instance) I do grieve.

33. Do you practice any other art besides writing? Does that art ever tie into your writing, or is it entirely separate? Not really, I like to create moodboards for my stories but I wouldn't consider them art.

13. What is a subject matter that is incredibly difficult for you write about? What is easy?

When they have to talk about feelings or their relationship, it's soooo hard lol. Like the number of times I've tried plotting out a fic with someone and they will suggest something and I'm like 'yeah but then they actually have to talk :('

Easiest is introspection about how much they mean to each other or thinking about important moments in their history haha. That stuff always flows really well.

27. Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?

Hmmmmm. Gosh, that's a hard question! I think characterisation-wise, I don't really struggle that much once I get a decent grasp on characters, and I can't remember the last time I had a character that was a mystery to me. But I suppose if we look only at Alex Rider fandom, then John and Yassen have been stressful sometimes, especially together because of RR (which I haven't read and usually ignore) and because I'm often worried about people reading things in my writing that I didn't intend. It can be a lot harder to stop caring what people think and just write my own things for those characters sometimes.
