Huanlin slowly stands up and licks a bit of blood off of her fingers as she holds her scythe and sets it on the earth. She didn't expect for this female stranger to randomly show up and join her in the fight. Originally, Huanlin had decided that she would deal with the mixed blooded beings on her own since she had been wishing for some bloodshed but then this woman had jumped in and joined in killing these beings. So the priestess had to fight with only her weapon since she didn't want to expose the fact that she had powers as well.

Once they had finished off all the beings, Huanlin turns her head to side glance at the woman before turning towards the direction to the church she lives in. "Why don't you come with me so I can patch up your wounds? You don't need to accept if you don't feel like it," she asks, stopping in her tracks to hear what her answer will be.

Both she and Mulan had opted for their usual attire —- the latter wearing her armor ( though Ruby had convinced the warrior to leave the sword behind and, instead, keep a dagger at her side, should the need for protection arise ) —- and though Mulan may have felt out of place, the only eyes upon her were Ruby’s own. Merida’s kinsmen were a brash bunch, seemingly unfazed by what some would consider a lack of decorum —- and many far too intoxicated to put much consideration into it.

          Dropping a hand into Mulan’s, the she-wolf ( having discarded her cloak for a gown gifted to her by Merida ), gave the warrior’s hand a tug, pulling her towards the center of the floor. ❝ Come on. The least you can do is have a little fun. Dance with me. ❞

She tried a smile, unconvincing as it was. “That’s very kind of you, but I know it’s absurd.” Make no mistake, Sam knew that the time period in which she’d lived,  “A woman could miss any of the good things of the Victorian era, you know. Quiet countrysides, the opening nights of operettas, slow-paced living. I could go on forever about courting, you know?”

She didn’t romanticize the era of course. Plenty of issues, and her son nearly dying of fever had been the least of it. Sam felt no shame in missing him. But… “The corsets, you know, they were horrible. Restricting. They aren’t kidding when they say some of them literally moved your organs around.” And yet… she sighed, pulling her knees in close to wrap her arms around them, head resting on top of them.

“But I felt like I had some control, you know? I had so little control over anything, and it felt like as long as I was wearing one, I could stand tall and say everything was being held together.” A wry, distant chuckle. “Even if it was only by whale bone and brocade.” She shook her head. “It only made me feel better, I know. It didn’t actually fix anything besides my posture, and probably ruined something inside my gut, but…I don’t know. I don’t know anymore.”
