Get rich or die trying

In my early school years I was an average student carrying only the most modest dreams. As time passed however I began to achieve things that no one in my family had ever achieved before. Gradually, my parents started to see hope in me a possibility for our family to rise beyond the limits of the life they had known.

My grandfather started from nothing. We were dirt poor when he began working yet through sheer persistence and discipline he built a life of dignity and respect. He ensured that his children were educated and professionally established. I chose to complete their dream, I decided I would earn well and achieve what the world calls success for the people I love.

But ambition for me has always had a final destination. After I have completed my education after I have achieved what I set out to achieve and fulfilled my responsibilities I want to slow down. I want to turn my attention to the things that quietly matter to me, my writing and my thoughts. I imagine a quiet home nestled in a forest near a river. I see my loved ones there with me. I picture long unhurried days rain falling gently on the veranda, a cup of jaggery tea in my hands and I'll quietly rest my eyes and if in that moment even godji will ask me ki parth do you want the world? I'll humbly decline. Cuz the thing i wanted i already have it. <3

Getting in touch with nature - ground zero

Today I went with Mama for his "field work" Watching him in action and seeing things up close really shifted something in me. At the anganwadi, I saw so many kids who get mid-day meal at the center was often the only food they had that day.

That sight stung it reminded me how easily we take comfort and privilege for granted when we’ve never stepped into places like these.

But not everything was heavy, I also stumbled upon my rasmalai’s favorite color flower while wandering around, and that made the whole morning feel lighter.

Before I'll fly 🪽

I woke up early this morning and for the first time in a long while I saw sparrows. It caught me off guard cuz I suddenly remembered how I used to hear them chirping every morning when I woke up early for school. That memory came back very clearly almost without a warning.

Seeing the sparrows today stirred something familiar inside me. While talking to my parents I said that once a bird leaves its nest, it only returns after becoming something more.

Today felt like a quiet confirmation of that thought. It’s my time to leave the nest.

Genres of Photography

documentary photography The simplest form of journalistic photography wherein the message conveyed is far more important than the aesthetic of the picture taken.

landscape photography Usually a wide angle shot of the landscape including elements of nature rather than human subjects. Very closely related to nature photography.

nature photography Dedicated entirely to showcasing natural elements, in this case the bird and the sky. Nature photographs typically shoot to enhance the beauty of nature.

long exposure photography / light drawing This type of photography involves setting the shutter speed very low so that the camera captures the movement of light in a way unforeseen by the human eye.

night photography Capturing images at nighttime taking advantage of the low light available to create silhouettes.

sports photography Capturing movements within a sport. Usually achieved with a high shutter speed to accurately click subjects in motion.

portrait photography Showcasing the expression or emotions of a singular or multiple subjects in focus via close up pictures.

self photography Pictures of the photographers taken by themselves usually with the help of a tripod set to take clear images. The photographs usually are meant for self expression.

fashion photography An artistic way of showcasing outfits and other fashion items by image. Most fashion photographers experiment stylistically to best focus on the product at hand.

still life photography Creative pictures taken of otherwise mundane objects, or interesting immovable objects.

event photography Capturing moments in high quality of people enjoying themselves in a variety of events like meetups, celebrations, etc.

abstract photography Photography made using objects or patterns that create unusual visuals. Usually achieved by zooming into textures and patterns.

food photography The main focus of the image captured is food in this type of photography. It is the main subject, there can be secondary subjects too.

pet / animal photography Like food photography, the main subject in this type of photography are animals or pets.

street photography Meant to capture moments of the regular everyday life. This type of photography aims to memorialize the mundane workings of life through candid pictures of strangers.

The genres mentioned above are only a few of the myriad present in the world of photography. These are some of the most commonly used and genres that I have personally had experience with before. The best part about photography is that there is no need to stick within a set box, creativity is celebrated here so if a picture doesn't seem to fit any genre more commonly talked about it doesn't take away from the appeal of the photograph. Any beginner photographer tries to delve into all kinds of genres before finding their niche, so it is very important to begin with a deep dive into the study of the different genres of photography.
