Walter is officially in two wheel drive!
I am proud to call myself the owner of a new bike! I had a great time at Bar Bricco with my friends last night. It’s a great place if you’re craving Italian cuisine and culture, good wine, and authentic food. I’m looking forward to taking my bike out for a spin, I just need to get a helmet first. My friends recommended I check out Red Bike, near the UofA. I’d passed by there a ton when I was in school, but I’d never been in and apparently they have a great selection.
I found a great new helmet thanks to the knowledgeable and helpful staff at Red Bike – now I’m ready to ride! I am going to explore the University area Whyte Ave, and a bit of the south side today. It’s been a few years since I’ve been here and I’m looking forward to checking out a few of my favorite places and seeing what’s changed.
One of my favorite places to grab lunch is at Sugarbowl on 88th Ave. Their chicken and waffles is my favourite. I am so craving it.They also have a great breakfast and brunch menu – I forgot how many great places there are to eat in Edmonton!
Later this afternoon, I’m going to meet Zac, Sarah, and some of my other friends for patio time on at the new Ritchie Market, and check out Biera, the new restaurant. I spent so many evenings on the patios of Whyte Ave’s many restaurants and bars while at university in Edmonton. This is going to be just like old times!
I’m sitting here at Biera with friends and I one thing that caught my attention right away was the architecture and structure of this new building! Really cool. The ceilings are super high, and are made of wood. And I can see all the duct work and vents through like you would in a warehouse or something. It’s pretty impressive cause it makes me feel like I’m in a loft. But the wood looks modern, not aged like you would see in a historic building. Zac knows some of the crew who designed this building and he explained that the structure is made of some sort of product called cross laminated timber - the architect in me, got all excited when I saw them! Wouldn’t it be cool to live in a place with ceilings like that? I think so!
I thought a good way to end this perfect day in Edmonton would be to walk along the river valley edge at Ezio Farone Park. I was lucky to catch an beautiful sunset, I sat on a bench to enjoy the view. See you tomorrow Edmonton!
