Froakie Card Review (XY138 Black Star Promo)

Since this Froakie was featured in a blister pack and especially in a Weekly Shop Bundle pack in Pokemon TCG Online, I thought about reviewing it. Don’t worry… it’s going to be a short review, I don’t have a lot to talk about…

So, I am going to start of with the awesome facts about this card:

It is a black star promo.

It is a holo card.

It has an awesome holo pattern.

Froakie is admiring his reflection in the water.

Did you notice that I didn’t even bother to talk about the playability of this card? Well let’s take a look at this as well.

Playability-wise:

It is identical to the BREAKpoint Froakie 38/122, so it doen’t really add any playability value to the game.

It is a basic Pokemon with acceptable HP

It has weakness to Grass which is very normal for a water type Pokemon

It evolves into a Frogadier and potentially a Greninja and maybe a Greninja BREAK after that, which is very promising!

It’s move is useless, It may buy you some time to play an extra energy or survive an extra turn. But eventually you will not be lucky for ever and you will flip that tails...

To recap:

I give this card a 4/5 from a collectors point of view. The artwork is awesome, the holo pattern is awesome and I would love to have this in my collection!

I give it a 2/5 playability-wise just because it is needed in order to play the Greninja and/or Greninja BREAK, even though there are better Froakies in the game currently.
