Can we talk about how in Rusty Lake Hotel, Mr. Owl invites Mr. Deer, Mr. Boar, Ms. Pheasant, Mr. Rabbit, and Mrs. Pigeon to the hotel and has them systematically murdered to eat.
And then in Rusty Lake Paradise, we find out that Jakob Eilander, who is ritualistically murdered by his family, is Mr. Owl.
We also find out that his father is Mr. Deer, his brother David is Mr. Rabbit, his sister Elizabeth is Ms. Pheasant, his uncle Gerard is Mr. Boar, and is grandmother Margaret is Mrs. Pigeon.
Interesting that those are the people he chose to murder, eat, and keep their skulls as trophies.
Some groups don't cover up the murder as their goal is simply to not get caught. The group will leave the body where the ritual took place and leave little to no evidence behind.
The case that comes to mind is the mutilated torso of a young boy found floating in London's River Thames in 2002. The body was found close to seven half-burned candles.
Other times the group and murders go undiscovered for many years until something occurs that brings legal involvement/attention to the group. The case that comes to mind for this is Anna Elizabeth Young who was convicted of the death of a toddler (Emon). There are believed to be many more victims. Emon is believed to have died from starvation and abuse around 1989. His body was never found. Anna was arrested in 2017 for this crime.
Since a number of groups are closed, meaning they isolate their members and the members aren’t allowed outside contact with friends, or family their deaths are not discovered. Their bodies are buried on the land the group uses, or in the residence of the group member(s) Children raised in these groups are also kept from outside contact, not allowed to go to school, or medical attention sought for them if they become ill or injured. As a result their existence is not documented and their disappearance/death goes unnoticed
Valentina de Andrade was the leader of the Superior Universal Alignment UFO cult. She was convinced that male children born after 1981 were the embodiment of evil and they had to be exterminated as a payment to these beings who would save them. There are no official numbers, since the media gave different versions regarding this group, but out of the 19 missing children, 5 were never found.
To answer your second question. It would be extremely difficult for a child to tell if the murder of would be siimulated or real. It’s the impact of the belief that it was real that I think should be focused on. This is due to the response would be as if the murder was real.
The perpertrators would likely be the ones to know if the murder was simulated or real. They likely would not admit to murder or would confirm it was murder to keep the person trapped in trauma and the group.
Sometimes while working through the event one can come to the conclusion what occurred wasn’t real. This can come with what one knows as an adult versus what their younger self witnessed.
If the murder occured while the person was an adult there are some questions they could ask themselves. Let me know if you would like some of those questions.

Dark Country Launch Day: Take a Walk on the Wild Side …
Today is the Dark Country launch day, and I couldn’t be happier. 😁 Of course, those release day nerves are still there and the little voice of worry doesn’t disappear, but I’m also so excited for the world to read this book. Writing this book was, after all, a labor of love. Well, okay, maybe not love per se. It was a story that I needed to write, and through all the blood, sweat, and tears, I…
Leroy Carter Jr. was sleeping in the bushes of Golden Gate Park when he was attacked and decapitated. His body was found on February 8, 1981, and he had only been dead for about 24 hours. The other clue left behind was a headless chicken, part of which was stuffed into Leroy’s body. Leroy’s head was missing.
The San Francisco Police brought in an officer who specialized in the occult. According to her, the murder was likely part of a dark ritual involving Palo Mayombe, a black magic offshoot of the Afro – Caribbean religion Santeria. The ritual made a brew from the victim’s brains and perhaps the ears and the nose. She predicted that the head would be returned after 42 days, once the ritual was complete.
Right on schedule, 42 days after the murder, the head was returned. However, dispite having been called in, the occult detective was not taken seriously, and no one was arrested for the murder. Gallant was the name of the occult detective. “ Our problem was, even though our homicide detectives didn’t buy it, my partner and I weren’t out there doing surveillance on the 42nd day either, “ Gallant said. “I think looking back on it we had a real difficult time too, believing that something like this could happen. Even though it was our theory. “
The baffling case of the beheaded transient remains unsolved. Today, though, Gallant takes her theories seriously, and so do law enforcement agencies across the country.
