19: Forceful Kiss
It wasn't often that they got separated down below. Levi always acted aloof, as if he didn't care, but it was just that, an act. In all honesty, he had let Isabel and Farlan into his heart, and the thought of losing either of them sent ice through his veins.
After a run in with a group of the Military Police who were more involved than usual, Levi asked the two to split up, circle around, and meet him back at their hideout. He would lead the lackeys back up into the world above.
When he returned, Farlan was stretched out over the couch, a book in his hand. Isabel, he remarked, was nowhere to be found. He had presumed she had followed Levi.
Hands clenched into fists and he walked up the stairs, rushing out on the balcony, where he sat, watching the streets without rest.
She would come home, she had to.
From the lights that flickered on in homes, and the lack of light filtering in from the grates above, Levi knew it was late, perhaps nearing midnight, and still Isabel hadn't returned home. His stomach was in knots, and his hair a mess from how often he'd run his hands through it in frustration.
Just as he prepared himself to say goodbye to someone he hadn't meant to grow attached to, and to leave Farlan as well, returning to a life of loneliness, an all-too-familiar voice called up to him.
"Oy! Chief, you're looking awful, did the Police really give you that much trouble?"
With a swift motion, she was up on the balcony beside him, a smirk on her face, "Sorry, I got caught up in a bit of mischief downto-"
Levi didn't let her finish, grabbing her by the collar of her shirt and pulling her closer. His other hand went around to the back of her head, weaving into her hair as he closed the distance between them, covering his mouth with hers.
As she confusedly returned the kiss, he mouthed the words he could not voice into her skin.
"I thought I'd lost you."
