I just realized the person who posted this is actually a G*ncy shipper and I regret not reblogging it with “yes because people love to hate on f/f ships so if G*nji was a woman people wouldn’t ship G*ncy even with all of the canon support,” like we haven’t seen that happen with Cle/xa and Korr/asa/mi

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, my reasons for not shipping G*ncy have very little to do with it being m/f. I wouldn’t ship it even if they were both women because I like the dynamics of Pharmercy better. Additionally, I would still ship Pharmercy if Pharah was a guy. Just because I’m a lesbian that prefers f/f ships (because I’m in a f/f ship in real life and can relate) doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy well written m/f ships.

I posted this in reply to something someone said on someone else’s post, but it made me realize what bothers me most about The Rival Ship (besides that it’s a rival ship). Ang.ela didn’t join 0verwatch until after she was already the head surgeon at the hospital she worked at, meaning she probably saved a lot of people from the brink of death. It’s what she does. It’s her passion due to the death of her parents, yes, but it’s also her career. She doesn’t need to love or fall in love with people to want to save them. To suggest otherwise seems really yikes to me on a personal level. I work in retail and men take my friendliness as flirting but like, I’m just doing my job. I’m getting paid for this. I would be helping anyone else in the same fashion. I’m not flirting with you. I’m sure there are other people out there that relate.

And if we take the current lore at face value, Ge/n/ji wasn’t part of 0verwatch before his surgery; didn’t stay with 0verwatch for very long after due to hating himself; and was still with Ze/nya/tta up to Reflections, which takes place after Recall. Unless by keeping in touch via letters, they fell in love, there’s not a point in the timeline where it would work otherwise.
