Little Tadpole - Rivan/Dunma Headcanon

i definitely got carried away and wrote something about Rivan and Dunma’s father/daughter relationship. but i needed to write it, so i will not apologize :’)

Rivan absolutely LOVES his daughter

we all know that

he found her as an egg just as he was starting out as a guard while doing one of his first surveys

‘Is that— oh my…’

he was SO nervous to bring her home

but he couldn’t just leave the egg abandoned

so he brought it back

and he notified Gaddison and Bazz IMMEDIATELY

“Ummm… guys? I found this when doing a survey… What do I do?”

they just look at him with shocked expressions

“Do you really think we can raise a baby ourselves? I mean, we’re barely grown, and we don’t know ANYTHING about childcare.”

Gaddison shrugs

“I mean… we have a whole community to help, Bazz. Lighten up.”

Trello (Rivan’s father) isn’t too sure

but Rivan seems excited

and that’s all that matters

“You have a heart of gold, you know? I’m so proud to have you as my son.”

toddler years come

Seggin understands Rivan’s struggle

because we all know Bazz was a wild child himself

Rivan gets LOADS of advice from Seggin

and from Trello, of course

Sidon is always up for babysitting when Rivan needs to work or take a break for a bit

because let’s be real here… those princely duties don’t seem THAT difficult

but Rivan ends up bringing Dunma with him to work a lot of the time

and the elders in the guard are 100% okay with it

Dunma learns so much from everyone

and she sees the whole guard as family

when Dunma’s excited, Rivan’s excited

she teaches him patience

lots and lots of patience

and he grows to be one of the best father figures a Zora can have

and he’s oh so silly

he loves telling stories of when she was little

and you bet he has a nickname for her

“You’re my little tadpole, and you always will be.”

when she joins the Zora Guard, no one’s surprised

but Rivan is BEYOND thrilled

Bazz is sure to place her with him until she seems ready to take on a survey/mission herself

and until that time comes, Rivan is always happy to have her by his side
