Handful of sagenite agate from tonight’s rock saw adventures. Still oily from the saw! Cut thick this time, to make it easier to polish. River rock I found while out hiking with my mom.

Otter Mom
It is hard to walk quietly on river cobble. I was near a small inlet of the American River when I heard splashing and small barks. Thinking it was a couple of dogs playing I started to sneak around a few trees. Before I could capture the seen three little otter pups dived off a tree stump into the water and disappeared. Mom was nearby and didn’t disappear. Instead she started slowly swimming toward me barking her warning to stay away. After grabbing a few shots I slowly backed away from the bank, still facing her and watching. She was getting closer and I was moving too slowly. Finally, after seeing I was far enough away to not hurt her brood, she turned and swam to the opposite bank, continuing to watch me over her shoulder. I stayed for a while but never saw the pups again.
