Before the era of $400 branded pool floats shaped like literal avocados, we had the Inner Tube. It was simple, it was rubbery, and it smelled faintly of a Goodyear service center. This image perfectly encapsulates the 1974 "Safety Second" movement, a time when a successful afternoon consisted of tethering yourself to twelve strangers and drifting blindly toward a downstream brewery or a particularly sharp rock. Look at that coordination! It’s less of a recreational activity and more of a low-stakes naval blockade. The fashion is peak 74: bowl cuts, high-waisted trunks, and the universal hope that nobody in the front of the line has to pee.
