Some of the many delights to be seen in Hull’s Old Town... and yes, that’s a real street name.
Fun commute to work: crossing over the River Hull with Squid Squad member Emily!
True Love
In 1847 Memiadluk and Uckaluk arrived in Hull aboard the Truelove, a local whaling ship.
Visitors from Greenland
In 1847 Captain John Parker brought a couple back from the Nyatlick in the Cumberland Straits to Hull on the 'Truelove'. The couple called Memiadluk and Uckaluk were brought to England to highlight the poor conditions in their homeland and after arriving in Hull they took part in talks in Manchester and York.
Before their departure plaster casts were made of their heads as well as the head of Captain Parker and these are now displayed in the Hull Maritime Museum. Memiadluk and Uckaluk were given a variety of gifts by their hosts before they left but unfortunately on the return journey to Cumberland South Uckaluk died after there was an outbreak of Measles on board.

The Hull Meets the Humber
The confluence where the River Hull meets the River Humber as the sun sets.
River levels were high and Hull’s tidal barrier was lowered to protect the city.
Wyke on Hull
The city of Hull developed from a settlement called “Wyke”, a creek where the River Hull enters the River Humber.
The word Wyke originated from the Scandinavian word "vik" meaning a creek.

Another Day Another Dollar!
Another day, another dollar. What seems like an endless ‘groundhog day’ is only separated by brief moments. Lunchtimes, home time, we make sure we make the most of every last minute. Our town has so many little back alleys and little snickets you can wander around forever and never come across the same place twice. I discovered all of these little places just on my lunch hour.
Its is amazing…

Urban Design: Swinging Low in Hull The River Hull has been the lifeblood of the English city of the same name for centuries, with vessels ferrying goods along the waterway during the the country's industrial glory days. Now, the river has a new riparian jewel: the Scale Lane Bridge, designed by the architecture firm of McDowell+Benedetti, in collaboration with Alan Baxter Associates and Qualter Hall, it was the winning entry in a competition held in 2005.
