Cal frequently plays tag with River. Any and all Haciendans are welcome to join. They might even get to hear him parlaying it into talking to River about the nature of hunting, predators, and prey.
For the twins’ birthday, Ty got them and River each a couple games to play on their own and each other’s consoles.
He got Ziz Epic Mickey, Painting Party, and Dragon Age: Origins.
He got Zia Animal Crossing, Zoo Tycoon, and Dragon Age II.
He got River Sniper Elite v2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Dragon Age: Inquisition.
If you look closely, you can see where he got frustrated with Nat and said, “Screw the things you know they’re interested in. Can’t we just get them games that they might like that have nothing to do with that?”
For her birthday, River gave Zia the same assortment of weapons she once tried to give Ziz.
For his birthday, River gave Ziz all the books he gave her in this post, the margins full of comments about her opinions on the subject matter.
Zach: Cal's doing stuff in the kitchen with some of the ghosts. Specifically, keeping snacks and food and beverages going. More specifically, keeping an eye on Annabelle while she cooks and bakes. The kids are going to get delicious cake and cookies, and snacks much nicer than normal parties. Annabelle's even working on a pizza that's healthier than most pizzas. River comes in to retrieve the food and drinks and take them out to the party. With the way Annabelle looks at her, it's good that it's hard to unsettle her.
River still puts flowers on Lynette's grave. Sometime in this... time... she started putting flowers on Ziz's bed.
Sometime when Ziz was out of his room, River snuck in and put the following on his bed: A note which reads: * I like it. It looks wrong. And right at the same time. Like looking at someone differently. Like broken glass, but he's still beautiful. [seven-ish words scribbled out] Why'd you draw it like this? * (Do you ever have that one moment when you realize that this one song is so very much about this character?) (River was scared of asking about why Ziz drew the guy, why he drew him erotically, and why he drew him in a cubist style.) (I was sitting here trying to imagine if she would, imagining her with her pen held above paper, with anxiety making her heart pound-) (And suddenly, I realized: Here I am, a rabbit-hearted girl, frozen in the headlights.)
