The River Coe. Glencoe. The Three Sisters. The MacDonalds held the glen until conflict broke out between the MacDonalds and the Campbells of Argyll. There was fault on both sides; the MacDonalds stole Campbell cattle, and the Campbells kept trying to annex MacDonald territory. The conflict carried on into the 17th century, when the clans found themselves on opposite sides of the Wars of the Covenant. The Campbells supported the government, while the MacDonalds allied with the Royalist cause. To put it in simple terms, the MacDonalds represented the traditional Highland way of life, while the Campbells represented Scottish ties to England and government control. The centuries-long conflict came to head in one of the most infamous episodes in Scottish history. The Massacre of Glencoe took place in Glen Coe on 13 February 1692. An estimated 30 members and associates of Clan MacDonald of Glencoe were killed by Scottish government forces, allegedly for failing to pledge allegiance to the new monarchs, William III and Mary II. These government soldiers had enjoyed hospitality from the MaDonalds, before receiving the order to slay them when many were sleeping. According to Highland code, a clansman should give shelter to anyone, even to his sworn enemy. Nowadays this iconic landscape is a must for visitors. @lochlevenseafoodcafe is nearby and unmissable. One of the must-do-in-Edinburgh traditions that YS and I have set for ourselves is to rent a cheap car and take a road trip up to Glencoe - the highlands of Scotland. Don’t be mistaken though, it’s not the destination that we’re willing to throw four - six hours traveling for from Henderson Row, it is the jaw-dropping journey that we have our eyes set on.  Just like the spectacular naturesque and mountainscape scenes we see in ads or movies, this was exactly the same, but in real time.   Y’all know I love my lush greenery landscapes so this was an opportunity that could not be missed! An hour into the journey we’ll see River Coe next to the highway so that automatically adds itself into the ‘beauty of Scotland that seems other-worldly’ list. Then as time passes we’ll drive pass small towns, some bnbs, and local farms. The halfway point will be marked once we see the infamous railroad bridge that is seen in maaany Harry Potter films. *cues fangirl scream* Oh, apparently James Bond’s Skyfall was shot there as well!? Now that will add onto the ‘why-is-scotland-so-cool’ list.  Although this round our trip was accompanied by the endless UK drizzle, it didn’t stop us from going out and taking photos with the stunning view. 

One day YS and I wanna go caravanning and camping here! THEN we’ll have the full outdoor experience. 

The wind here makes such a good photoshoot compliment hahaha.

Prior to this shot I was running around happily, although I was drenched and freezing to death. Priorities done right, peeps. 

It was gloomy and wet, yet the thick fog and rain makes moody seem so cool here.

You know what was crazy though? There were cyclist cycling along in the rain and the cold here. WHAT DO Y’ALL EAT? Teach me your ways, senpai.

Legit my feels whenever I’m surrounded by nature.  Oh and if you were wondering, our meals for this day trip was cheap food we found in a nearby Tesco! The usual - sandwiches, wraps, fruits, snacks. The restaurants and cafes around Glencoe carried quite a hefty price for us cheapskates so we didn’t allocate any budget for that.  That’s all for the Glencoe series! After the dramatic waterfalls at the Pass of Glen Coe it runs through the small Loch Achtriochtan before it turns north west.
