@biginkprints is coming to Lynchburg, VA! We’ve partnered with @riverviews_artspace for two days of large-scale printing on Oct 6th & 7th. Artists are invited to submit a proposal by July 30th to print a big woodblock during the event! Riverviews is a non-profit arts organization committed to presenting contemporary art exhibitions, multi-disciplinary programs and events as diverse as our community. Our mission is to cultivate inclusivity, quality of life via the means of art. In 2003 Riverviews Artspace officially opened its doors. Its urban mix of living spaces, studios, galleries, a movie theater and meeting places attracts artists, tenants, patrons and tourists alike. Since opening, Riverviewshas brought more than 220 artists, 90 published writers, over 70 independent and foreign films and attracted more than 100,000 visitors. We will be utilizing BIG INK's giant mobile etching press to pull prints up to 40” x 96” in dimension. Those accepted will have two months prior to the event to carve their image into a piece of plywood. BIG INK events are a constructive way to collaborate in a creatively inspiring space while gaining an in-depth knowledge of how to create a large-scale woodblock print. The program is designed for printmakers who understand basic woodblock principles but want to expand their expertise and working scale. The program is also designed for those not yet trained in woodblock but whose visual aesthetic would lend itself to the medium. This includes illustrators, sculptors, designers, and painters who use bold contrast, strong outlines, and patterning. Participating in an event often inspires artists to incorporate more print work in their studio practice. It is free to submit a proposal; accepted artists pay $295 dollars to participate. This covers all consumable materials for the event including printing ink, paper, cleaning supplies, equipment usage and photography of the finished work. All that is required of the artist is to bring a fully carved block.
