Just sent out a new Junk Drawer! 📬 I had actually written something totally different than what went out. This one gets a little more into my thoughts over the past year and why we do what we do. Sometimes you need that little reminder.
PencilBooth is a visual email newsletter app made for creative types.
Happy to share this piece I created for the ‘Friends of Jinny’ exhibit — opening this weekend at Jinny Street Gallery in Tokyo with 40 international artists!
I had a wonderful time chatting with Stef, who was the inspiration for this piece and has been living in Japan for 30+ years. We connected over various things, such as our love of sci-fi (and Alien specifically). I could feel the vibes of Jingumae 2-chōme even from afar. So I wanted to try to capture that and focused on a specific corner park that he shared photos of — near his coffee shop of choice, @hatto_coffee.
I wish I could be there to experience the opening myself, but I’m honestly just grateful to Lorenzo, Toto, Shoen and Naomi for letting to be a part of the show and connect with the neighborhood in a small way! Hopefully we’ll make it over there to visit at some point!

Big changes have been happening!
Not entirely sure how I want to use this space now, whether it'll replace the newsletter or maybe just be a separate spot to share things. (Or if anyone will actually see this honestly). Figured I'd add things in the meantime either way!
Been awhile since I've posted here, but I wanted to mention that I'll be doing another teen camp this summer with the Academy Center of the Arts focusing on Procreate! 📱✍️ We'll go over the basics of illustrating in the app while working on a variety of projects over the course of the week -- with the option of including some of those pieces in our summer student art show.
(**Students MUST bring their own iPad with Procreate and Apple Pencil**).
Camp is for ages 13-18 and happens July 27th through 31st from 9:30am-Noon.

“Well, breakfast foods have always been ones I could (and often do) eat for any meal — they’re some of the best! That made me want to put together a set kinda inspired by them, but also that would make for a good listen while cooking.
It took a little while to figure out the right order for things though! I knew where I wanted to start and end it, but wasn’t sure exactly where to put the rest. So I started thinking about making breakfast on the weekend and feeling a little sluggish after sleeping in a little.
The mix ended up a bit slower at the start and picks up after the first ‘cup of coffee’. It has a little more energy in the middle and starts to slow down again at the end… like you might feel after scarfing down a big meal.”

Turned 36 yesterday! 💀
Not a big one, but it was a nice and chill one. I haven’t really thought much about birthdays the past few years, but 2022 has been pretty good and full of some positive changes. (Despite, you know, the anxiety of everything else going on all the time). Feeling mostly optimistic about things though… and certainly feeling the most myself in a long time.
Sooo, uh, thanks to everyone for the well wishes yesterday — and to Sarah, family, and friends old and new… you know who you are).
Sarah (@ghostcatyarn) was talking about her carpal tunnel the other day and this was the best possible solution we came up with… crochet hook hands!
