Riviot
the land of a rich history and terrible weather
geographically speaking Riviot is a rather poor place to live. everstreching mountain ranges and gloomy cold forests are the norm in this region. the climate ranges from similar to our world's Sweden in the south to straight up Iceland in the north, the peninsula being cut off at its base by an enormous ice shelf. there are quite a few volcanoes scattered across Riviot, differentiated from the rest by their black iceless peaks. many locals believe them to be the homes of fire spirits and burn sacrifices at their base before winter.
Riviot's populations are neatly divided into two groups: westerners and the Cold sea People. westerners arise from the general Sweetwater culture, they live in densely packed cities, engage in herding and trade. their cultural centers are the Imperial city of Rakodan in the south, city of New Dellon in the north and the ancient palace known as Heros Tower in the east.
the Cold Sea People live by (you guessed it) the Cold Sea. they are much less centralized, don't have any permanent settlements and only gather in big numbers for the annual spring celebration in the Cold Sea Ruins. they sustain themselves on fishing and spend many days in the sea on elegant mastercraft boats. the CSP are great sea navigators, a valuable asset on any voyage.
the southern lands of Riviot were among the first places to develop larger kingdoms and chiefdoms and participated in the first kingdom period(the time frame after the invention of writing and before the rise of the Nameless Empire). during the first kingdom period the city of Rakodan was established, at first just a meek trading town but as the waters in the Goldshell straight got shallower it climbed the ranks to become one of the powerful cities of Sweetwater. at the end of the first kingdom period a king from the Central region showed up in the peninsula and established himself in Riviot's southeast corner created built himself a palace, supposedly to retire to. the man is a mysterious individual, not much is known about him but records of his name survived: Hero(He pronounced like hemp). while in Riviot Hero had a son who, after his father's death would go on to become the greatest conqueror in world's history, the Imperator, and create the Nameless Empire.
on the map: I really like how this turned out, the textures of the forests and cities are phenomenal, and the sticker on the "east mountains" is a great memento of the nonexistence of the undo button in traditional art
okay, I believe that's all, bye!
