‘Today I Listened...’ Day #28

Today I Listened to ‘Englistan’ by Riz MC. Don’t think you can hide a reggaeton beat from me just by slowing it down! Okay, fine it did take me slightly longer than usual to get annoyed by “kick… kick… snare”. And every second counts.

I’m back to not liking choruses, if only because the verses are so good. I don’t rate the music that much but the lyrics and the way they’re worded seem really well thought out. “Politeness mixed with violence” is a pretty cutting summary of English culture. And there are actually some nice subtle, melancholy string samples in the verses that I like.

My constructive criticism would be to either cut some of the choruses or change the lyrics up a bit each time. I know you can do it Riz. The verses were great but don’t lie on your laurels.
