I've had the dvd rattling around for years (one of those bargain bin copies; alas the perils of films #Falling into public domain means that although they're more readily available it's less likely anyone will stump up for a restoration)#It's a very modest affair: a cheapy adaptation of an old play and it shows. Feels very old fashioned and dated even by 1959 standards and #Especially when you hold it to its near contemporaries like the Corman Poe films or Hitchcock's Psycho. But what it lacks in modernity or #Originality it makes up for with a dose of silly charm. Moorehead is great as a prototype Jessica Fletcher who has to solve the case of a #Serial killer with a dangerous fursona; Price's role is a supporting one (despite publicity pushing him as the star) but he's at his driest #And prickly best. The plot is old hokum through and through and about as subtle as a sledgehammer but it does have the good sense to lay on #The red herrings so preposterously thick that it remains hard to guess the ending. A minor picture with a big stupid heart. Would make for #A good double feature with House on Haunted Hill or another such zero budget schlock fest.
