It’s a double post! I finished Call of the Bone Ships by @rj.barker a while back and I felt like I had to jump into The Bone Ship’s Wake fairly soon after and finish the series! I enjoyed this series so much. The one common theme I found through all of the books was that they took a while to get going, but once they did it was so hard to put them down! The world that Barker has built here is a fascinating one; a purely naval, matriarchal society where they pilot ships built out of the bones of long dead dragons? Throw in some pirates and you’ve got a fantastic series! The centre point of these books is the characters and, I’ll always maintain, a decent fantasy with well written characters is always far and away better than an intricately written fantasy with lacklustre characters. Barker understands this and has written some excellent characters that you can’t help but love by the end of this trilogy. The one point that readers may struggle over is the lack of info-dumps for the benefit of explaining the more esoteric parts of this world that Barker has created, but I found it worth tackling as the pay-off is a richly developed trilogy that will hold onto you and take you through an incredible rollercoaster of emotions. If you want a decent fantasy that blends magic, ships and pirates, this is a must read! #bookstagram #books #fantasybooks @orbitbooks_uk @orbitbooks_us #orbitbooks #rjbarker #tidechildtrilogy https://www.instagram.com/p/CfUWn_Vsl2p/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
