Heloooooo! It Simone coming at you with another eval plot call. Being the evil mun that I am, Sungmin will be doing either SPEED’s What U (yes, I’m that evil). If you would like to torture your muses along with Sungmin please let me know! Again, this can be purely dance-focused or can include vocals. IM me or message me on twitter (@knkamalu) if you’d like to take part. We wish them good luck and may the odds be ever in their favour.
When he had heard about this month’s evaluation being dance focused, Sungmin was somewhat excited. It had been some months since he had last properly danced. Sure, he’d danced for evals before, but he also had to focus on his rapping. This time was different. This was a dance evaluation, and Sungmin was ready to breeze through this month.
Or so he thought.
The only problem that he had was the choreography he had chosen. It was nothing like he had imagined it to be. He had initially chosen it because it seemed easy and it was unique considering it involved heelies. The one thing he wasn’t expecting was how bad he was going to be at balancing. As soon as he put the shoes on for the first time, he regretted his decision. He couldn’t work out the right balance and placement of his feet to avoid rolling around and falling and he hated it.
The fact that Haruto was easily skating around the practice rooms only made him feel more frustrated and embarrassed. The teenager had quickly gotten the hang of the shoes and often skated around, making Sungmin feel dizzy. The only thing that made things slightly better was that he wasn’t the only one struggling. Dowoon seemed to be having trouble with the shoes as well which made him feel somewhat more at ease with his own progress.
Still, they had a lot of work to do and choreography to learn and master. Sungmin had decided that even though he couldn’t master the shoes yet, it wouldn’t stop him from rehearsing. The first week or two had involved a lot of crashing and falling of Sungmin and he often left the practices sore and bruised. He practiced using the shoes at home as often as he could until he was finally able to master them enough to be able to dance without falling over (he hoped).
By the end of the month, the group had somehow managed to learn the routine thoroughly and were able to perform it with ease. He still struggled from time to time with the wheels on his shoes, but Sungmin was more or less prepared for the evaluation day.
When he arrived at Seocho, Sungmin felt uneasy. He was worried about their dance and whether or not they would be able to perform it right. Once he was settled, he placed his heelies on and ran through the choreography in his head until they were called to the room.
When the staff announced their bombshell, Sungmin grew even more nervous. He had barely been able to learn how to dance in his shoes and now they wanted them to dance to an entirely different song?
The music began and even though he felt uneasy, Sungmin danced. He played the original song in his head as he tried to ignore the song that was currently playing. Despite his best efforts, Sungmin was still a newbie when it came to heelies which, when mixed with the distraction of the new song, meant that Sungmin found himself fumbling once. He quickly fixed his mistake and continued as if nothing had happened.
The entire experience was torture and Sungmin was glad once it was over.
Dizzy and sore was what he was currently feeling. He was sore from his falling and dizzy from watching his practice partner non-stop skate around the room in his heelies while Sungmin struggled to even balance on them. He had long past the point of being embarrassed and he was partially thankful that Haruto was patient enough to help him. Why he had picked such a difficult choreography to learn for this month’s evaluation was beyond him.
Having done the last evaluation with the younger male, Sungmin had somehow found himself wanting to protect the teenager. He was young and naive and reminded him of himself at Haruto’s age. He was thankful that the younger boy had agreed to join his group, otherwise he would be screwed.
Sungmin shook his head to try and get rid of his dizziness. ❝ Can you stop skating in circles I’m getting dizzy, ❞ he requested, closing his eyes briefly. ❝ I forgot how active kids were, ❞ he mumbled.
This was Yoona’s first dance-focused evaluation since signing with Nova and she was both excited and scared. While she had danced before during evaluations, this was the first one that she didn’t have to sing for, and she was kind of happy. As much as she loved singing, she was kind of glad for the break in her usual and to be able to focus on something different for a change.
The fact that she was working with her cousin was an added bonus to this month’s evaluation. She had yet to work with Moonbok and so she had jumped at the chance to perform with him. The only thing they were missing was Jimin and then they would be complete. Still, she was happy to be working with her cousin for the first time since both got signed.
The other trainees in their group she didn’t know too well, but she took the chance to get to know them during their rehearsals. They were nice people who seemed to enjoy what they were doing which was all that mattered, at least to her. The group got along well and Yoona made sure everyone was still fed, hydrated, and took rest breaks.
They had been told to rehearse and memorise the choreography until they could do it in their sleep, and that is exactly what they did. They even played around with relay and part switches, just for fun, and to keep them on their toes. Yoona had come to expect the unexpected during evaluations and so she was preparing herself for anything. Even recording a video a week before their evaluations wasn’t enough to relax her. In fact, she grew more anxious about what was to come since they hardly ever recorded evals.
Arriving at Seocho on d-day somehow made her feel uneasy, more so than usual. She couldn’t quite work out why. She simply put it down to nerves and expectations. She focused on remembering the choreography and practiced until she was sore. She greeted her cousin and her fellow group members and they ran through the dance a few times before it was finally their turn. As usual, she was very anxious and she hesitated for a moment at the door as she took a few deep breaths before she followed everyone inside.
❝ We have a little.. surprise for you. While you will be performing your choreography, it won’t be to the same song. We have carefully selected a new song for you to dance the same choreography to. Good luck. ❞
What? Had she heard correctly? They were performing their choreography to a different song? They had not practiced this. She was freaking out. She tried not to show it but inside Yoona was screaming. She wasn’t prepared for this and it scared her.
It took her a minute before she remembered that she needed to focus. She had other people relying on her and she couldn’t let them down so she set aside her fears and tried to focus on what she had to do - remember the choreography and not get distracted by the new song. She was going to try and do just that.
The music began and so did their choreography. From the start it felt weird since they had been used to dancing to Crazy. Yoona had to really focus on remembering the moves and she counted the beats in her head while she danced. She noticed that her cousin seemed to fumble a bit at the beginning and she knew how upset he would be after. Despite this, she focused on executing the moves as best she could while also maintaining the right speed and rhythm of the choreography. She smiled. She was actually glad they didn’t need to perform vocally or else she would not be able to focus as much.
Once they were finished, the group was told to remain inside and wait. Yoona was tired and sore from all the rehearsing and stressing but her main focus now was her cousin. When she finally collapsed on the floor, she called him over, pulling him down to sit between her legs. She then pulled him down to lie on her while she hugged him from behind. It was her way of comforting him without mentioning anything. If he was anything like her, which he was, he would just want to forget it. So she simply hugged him to let him know it was all ok and they stayed like that chatting with the other trainees for the rest of the day.
