Summer is almost over and most students across the country are preparing to start a new semester at school, but fear not, there’s still time for some fun, joy and… friendly competition!

Earlier this month, CJ E&M’s game channel OGN announced that they will be holding a special event with tournament format called “Game X” that promotes fun for non-professional gamers and puts their gaming skills to the test. The competition will take place on August 24th and 25th at COEX Mall, located in the Gangnam district, and is a good opportunity for any citizen who may enjoy playing games to meet and socialize over the weekend. Games include FIFA 19, Just Dance 2019 and Injustice 2.

The check-ins are set to start at 10 a.m. on Saturday along with the first tournaments. You cannot sign up for tournaments after 12 p.m. but games will be played throughout the day. Contenders may leave the arenas prepared to host the event and return through the day for their matches once they get their wristbands. The event continues on Sunday at 2 p.m. for the finals and, at the end of the day, they will announce the first, second and third places in each game. Those who want to simply enjoy the atmosphere instead of playing are also welcome to join, watch and cheer for their friends in a different area they prepared with comfortable pouffes and screens. Streamer Jo Heewoo will MC the event along with other guest commentators and edited footage of the game competition will be posted on their official channel next month.

This event is free to enter for any attendee, but they are also encouraged to donate non-perishable food or clothing that will be collected by the staff and directed to charitable organizations in Seoul. Those who desire to compete should sign up as a contender on the official Game X website and fill in the form available with their data.

To earn +2 POINTS TO DISTRIBUTE AS YOU WISH, write a four post thread or a 250+ words solo about your muse playing one of the games available or simply attending the event at COEX Mall. For extra +2 CHARISMA POINTS write a four post thread with a character your muse never interacted with before. Relationships may be pre-established, but they must not have written content with each other. Please tag all your posts related to the event with #rkgamex and have them up by midnight EST at the end of September 4th, Wednesday. Threads may be continued after the deadline, but after September 4th points can no longer be collected.

Twirling the marker around her finger like a drum stick, Yuzu clicks her tongue into some basic beats as her eyes drift across the venue. “Did y’see who signed up for the contest? What’s the skill level? Wonder who’s gon’ win just dance. I keep hearin’ em tunes- makes me wanna dance too~”

Stretching out before her on the table she grumbles, tapping the pen down on the surface of the table instead. “Y’joined one of em by the way?” Eyes scanning the crowd she grins at some people looking into her direction curiously, flashing a peace sign to the one or two phone pointed towards her.

he’s got two milkis in one hand (should’ve asked for a bag, he berates himself) and a jamba juice in the other when he spots seokjin in the crowd. soobin only knows the guy as yena’s older brother, introduced sometime in the last couple of months that he and yena had been friends. they’re not well-acquainted yet, but soobin’s still glad to see him here; he’s another familiar face to greet and chat with in this busy event.

he walks towards seokjin with a smile on his face, his original mission—to bring the milkis back to his friends—already forgotten. “seokjin-sshi!” soobin greets once he’s next to him, shouting a bit to have himself be heard over the noise of the crowd. “are you here to watch over yena?"

it’s been such a long time since he could play a video game and actually enjoy it.  honestly, it’s been a long time since hongjoong has even touched a game at all, his systems hanging around his room and collecting dust.  before training, he used to play games a lot in his downtime, after training .. the hobby kind of fell to the wayside.  he still had a moment to pick up a controller every now and again, but ever since dream knight started he hasn’t had any time to himself.

that’s why when he hears about the event in coex mall, he’s practically ecstatic. bringing yoojung along with him for the ride is another blessing, considering he hasn’t seen his fellow trainee in what seems like forever as he’s been filming for over a month.  with a cheeky grin as they walk in amongst the gamer crowd, he turns his gaze to the girl and tilts his head towards the games.  “ you wanna look around or should we find something to play?”

She could barely keep her excitement at bay. It’s been weeks since she has last seen him and every passing second feels terribly painful to be away from him. Naeun always felt like she was going to burst in happiness whenever she was by his side but the same could almost be said when she wasn’t, except she was full to the brim of longing and missing his presence. After months of being together, one would think she would be used to the emotions he brings out of her yet it was rather the opposite, Naeun fancy’s the idea that she’s learning something new about him and herself as a person with each passing moment.

When she spots him amongst the crowd, there was a sense of pride and warmth that blooms within her. How lucky is she to have him? She thought in a mild daze as her smiles start to hurt her cheeks. She waves at him from afar, blushing furiously when she gains his attention. ‘Yoo Taeyang, what are you doing to me?’ she mumbles under her breath as she slowly walks towards him, meeting him halfway.

perfect day for some mayhem

“you sure you can keep up? do ya haf’ta put on that catsuit again so you can?” he turns to joohyun with a cheeky grin, a shit-eating grin, and he just knows it’s her favorite. for good measure, he’s stretching his arms out, swinging them over her head on purpose to bother her and swatting at her ponytail like a child. around joohyun, he pretty much is one. a child. a brat. the idiot friend to her broccoli head existence. 

reaching out to lightly grab her arm, he’s abrupt as he starts to shake it, grin wide and proud as he continues to nag her, “huh? do ya? do ya, punk?” there’s times he thinks of how being friends with her helped keep him sane too during the in-between times, that being around her reminds him of being home and he’s [very ironically] calmer because of it. this isn’t it. 

moving behind her, he grabs her other arm, swinging them above her and waving them around. “or are ya gonna dance like this and hope for the best? do you remember? this was your move when you were little. pretending to be a jellyfish when you’re just a vegetable.”

chanhee tilts his head, pouts his lips, he wants to play too. chanhee likes playing games, especially if he’s playing them with friends, so why is he not playing the game? it’s so sad, so stupid, he just came a little too late, so now he doesn’t have the chance to compete in the just dance competition. though that could be for the benefit, last time chanhee checked he wasn’t specially one of the best dancers, no the only thing chanhee got is his charisma and his voice.

though he’s not playing, it actually is a bit fun to watch the other play, to laugh with them. some of them are quite bad, some of them look like they could be idols, chanhee envies them, he wished he could dance as well as them. his mom doesn’t know he’s here, she probably think he’s at home studying, and chanhee should probably head home soon before she gets home and notices he isn’t home but—

it’s just so much fun being here, chanhee wants to stay here all day. seeing all these people just makes chanhee so happy. and while he watches all those people play the game, smile and laugh so much, enjoy themselves, that makes him happy, he wants to befriend every single one of them, compliment everybody on their dancing, he wants to be their friend he—

he looks down, his phone is ringing. oh noo… it’s his mom! chanhee looks around quickly, swings his back over his shoulder and then he stars running, he better hurry up!

* just dance

GAME X / AUG 24 & 25

very few things are made for him in the same way the game x tournament is. back at the spect8 dorms, jinhyuk would spend most of his precious free time playing everything from league of legends to mario party. when the group was at its most ‘jobless,’ he did two playthroughs of breath of the wild—a speedrun and a completionist one—before picking up cs:go. his closet is a shrine to consoles past and he takes care of his nintendogs religiously. a whole two days dedicated to games and the amateurs who play them? plus charity? jinhyuk can’t think of how things could get any better.

after perusing the offerings on the event’s website, he signs up to compete in just dance 2019. injustice 2 seems fun, but with the extra shifts at work, finding time to dance has been a struggle. jinhyuk misses his classes, he misses busking, he misses—the satisfaction of nailing difficult choreography, of falling asleep in the studio only to wake up to the music blasting, his body automatically following the moves he’d been killing himself to learn. he misses the stage too, but that’s a different sort of want, one jinhyuk knows he can’t have.

just dance might not be able to do much for the persistent ache in his chest, but he’s learned to be content with scraps—he’ll take what he can.

with byungchan in tow, jinhyuk drops off his contribution (old clothes, mostly his sister’s and hence very glittery, along with non-perishable food items) before registering for the tournament. he certainly isn’t the best dancer there, but jinhyuk likes to believe his experience and skills give him an edge over some of his competitors. while the bulk of his match-ups are a breeze, a few challenging face offs set his blood singing and his muscles straining to push himself over the edge to victory. sweat trickles down his back before long, but the grin never leaves his face. competition is fun for the hell of it. jinhyuk isn’t looking to win, really, just to enjoy himself (though winning would be nice. that tiny part of his heart still craves validation).

he plays against byungchan in between matches despite byungchan’s Beginner status. jinhyuk promises him it’ll be fun and vows to go as easy as he can on his friend, but byungchan is… spectacularly bad. jinhyuk doesn’t think he can suck badly enough to make byungchan look good. at the beginning of their (friendly) battle, the crowd gathered ends up cheering for jinhyuk. at some point, they start to beg jinhyuk to have pity on byungchan, and he’s trying, but byungchan is not a dancer for a reason. it’s a crushing victory. jinhyuk pats him on the back and says, “you’ll get me next time, buddy.”

(honestly, jinhyuk feels guilty until byungchan decides he’s mad at him. wins and losses, in the end).
