tw: mention of death

jinwoo has been weird for the past one and a half month, there was one specific reason for that, and the reason? jinwoo’s mother had died. in the beginning it were just sad days, then suddenly jinwoo’s dad wanted to pretend as if everything was okay and nothing had never happened. he found a replacement for mom in their acrobatic shows, he laughed all the time and he had even made a dating profile, yes, jinwoo had caught the other in making a dating profile. ever since his mother died it felt like suddenly everybody cared, suddenly everybody asked if he wanted to hang out, jinwoo had always thought he had very few friends but after the death of his mother he realized how many people he knew.

he was sure kyungwon was the same as the others, that she had just asked to see him because she wanted to try to cheer him up, not because she actually liked him, he was oh so sure. and he wouldn’t have gone out with the very much older if his dad hadn’t forced him, but now he was here with here, and no matter what she tried he just sat at the bench listening to her with a sulky face. the older had gone away for a minute and when she came back the young boy was looking sadly at the ground. she spoke to him and at first he ignored her but at some point he couldn’t anymore and finally looked up. immediately a surprised expression came over his face “corn dogs?!” he half yelled out. “how did you know i loved these?” he said as he without having noticed it suddenly had a smile on his face.

there was something satisfying about heading out of the city for the day. jaebum had grown up in seoul for the most part, spent a handful of months travelling between the united kingdom and the united states, but seoul was home. so it was a blessing to escape it’s hustle and bustle, even if only for a couple of hours. jaebum’s managed to track down a location out of town that he wants to check out and who better to explore it with than kyungwon. this location of which jaebum had disclosed upfront was actually a shelter for abandoned and injured cats. not that jaebum hated other animals, he just had an obvious preference for cats. living with a group of them helped.

gyeonggi was beautiful at this time of year. jaebum thinks to himself that he ought to get out this way more often, to play with cute animals or not. “almost there,” he murmurs, glancing at the gps sitting in the middle of the dashboard with furrowed brows. “the pictures online of this place ... they looked nice,” jaebum says optimistically, still taking in the scenery. “i mean, i guess it looked established. some of these places can be seedy and cruel for the animals, y’know?”

jaebum pauses for a little while, continuing down the road, a small town only just visible in the distance ahead. “so, just out of curiosity” jaebum begins, fixing the way the sunglasses sat on his nose. “when did you start getting interested in volunteering?” he asks, glancing at kyungwon.

Yes! Beomgyu had only a handful of flyers left, finally, and he was eager to get them handed out so he could continue his day (or what was left of it). He had met a number of interesting people on his journey and he had been ignored by more people than he could count - but he didn’t mind. He wasn’t someone to get phased by that. He lived positively.

Spying a young female, Beomgyu skipped over to her and smiled brightly. ❝ Excuse me, miss. If you’re not busy why don’t you check out some of the upcoming events that trc are holding? ❞ He handed her a piece of paper. ❝ All the information is listed on here. ❞

“kang kyungwon!” chaewon called, rocking up onto her toes to make sure that kyungwon could see her among the crowd of people on the street. chaewon zipped through the bodies between them until she was in front of her make up client, flyers still stuck safely under her armpit. “you do music, don’t you? right? here.” she took one flyer from her stack and handed it to kyungwon with a hopeful smile. out of all of the make up artists and hairstylists who worked at the salon alongside her, chaewon was definitely the most scatterbrained when it came to remembering her regular clientele’s interests and occupations.

“also ... um, my hours at the salon have been reduced, but i’m still going to be taking clients from home and stuff. so from now on, call my phone instead of the salon’s. actually, here,” she pulled a second flyer out from under her arm and a cute baby blue glitter gel pen from inside her bag. chaewon scribbled her phone number onto the flyer, and then handed that to kyungwon too. “there. for all your make up needs.”
