(As a reminder, this AU is pretty Hermit/Lifer centric because that's what I've watched the most of, but I do have some stuff for a few MCYTs outside of them... Intro to the RMAU-Verse

Ooooo, good shout! This is gonna be a little less "summary on the back of the novel" and more "friend trying to get you interested in a film/game universe" type thing though, because there's not exactly a singular "story" here...

So, the RMAU-Verse, or the Realistic Minecraft Alternate Universe, is my Minecraft AU made up of all my various Minecraft and MCYT headcanons, and that basically all of my Hermit/Lifer art "takes place in"/draws their designs from. It's MOSTLY world building if I'm being honest, with a grand collection of various species of mostly-fanon, mythology-derived, and fully self-created variations. I called it the "Realistic" au because it's not quite so "blocky" or strictly adhering to the mechanics of the game, but is instead a little bit more "realistic" feeling. In a very fantasy way of course, lol.

In addition to species (and "in-universe" "journal entries" on each of them in explanation), I have a general timeline of the WHOLE Verse (yes, starting at the literal in-universe creation of the universe and proceeding) that isn't COMPLETE necessarily but functions as a general outline, worldbuilding thoughts on Potions and Effects, additional tidbits of worldbuilding unique to RMAU, individual histories planned for many of the Hermits (often including first meetings and/or how they joined Hermitcraft as well as large events post joining), and several WIPs and a handful of posted works as well. Most of this - particularly the species entries, the posted works, and visual designs for all the Hermits (and a few more) - can be found via my Pinned Post on my blog, which is my RMAU-Verse Masterpost!

But as for highlights of the "plot" of the verse - my main focuses in this verse have been Grian and Mumbo, whose separation due to Evo and reunion just before Season 6 as well as Watcher related shenanigans were some of the first building blocks of the Verse, and then more recently Impulse and Skizz, who have a long and fun history of being former "gladiators" who SHOULD have been enemies but chose not to be to survive and now are So Close it's literally the focus of my two WIPs that are genuinely the largest stories in the whole Verse if I can ever get them finished. But honestly, MOST of the Hermits have at least one or two really fascinating tidbits I'd love to share with anyone interested!!!

Hermit-A-Day May - Day 16: GoodTimesWithScar

It's Mr. Goodtimes for Day 16!!!

So, RMAU Scar is a little like Cub... But also different, XD. So. RMAU Scar is a Human/Fae Hybrid, with shapeshifting magics! However, his Fae abilities were mostly blocked - so he went into a Deal with the Vex with Cub. What Scar got out of the deal was the unlocking of his natural Fae abilities as well as giving him access to Vex abilities too. Due to being half-human, he doesn't exactly have a full Trueform, but he is able to display Vex and sometimes Fae traits, particularly when emotional.

So - due to him not having a full Trueform, I picked an Alt Skin to do in addition to showing his Vex trait-expressions. Looking back at it, Elf Scar would've been a great example of his shapeshifting abilities, but my friend suggested Lawyer Scar and I couldn't help but laugh and do it! And I really like how it turned out!!! If you've seen my standard and Zoo Scar designs, you'll have seen the leg-braces before - the ones he powers using his magics (both Fae and Vex). He also has a wheelchair that he uses on bad days or just when he doesn't feel like or need to walk, although I haven't drawn that yet. I think I talked about the braces in my Scar post last year, so I'll leave it at that this year and you can find that post or ask me questions if you wanna know more. Well, that and I'm still pretty pleased with how I designed them!

But yeah, I like how this turned out - the combo of practically booty shorts and suit jacket and tie is just so silly to me? Especially with the tie flipped over his shoulder! I also really love how the Vex features turned out - particularly his scars and eyes glowing blue-ish! All in all, a piece I'm pretty delighted with!

Hermit-A-Day May - Day 2: Grian

It's day two and it's time for Grian!!!

RMAU-Verse Grian is a Watcher! In RMAU, Watchers can be made by someone with Admin abilities staring into the Void for long enough that the Void stares back, and thus Changes them.

I'm REALLY pleased with how he's turned out!!! I've had vague impressions of this basic design floating around in my brain since almost the conception of the RMAU-Verse itself, which was back in 2022 (oh... Oh RMAU is over three years old now, what?!?!?!), but I'd never actually drawn him in such a way that he'd felt RIGHT. But as I worked on this sketch and then touched it up, he repeatedly felt more and more Right. He's the perfect balance of eerie and ethereal and cute!!! My favorite details include his Void eyes (aka my way of nodding to Grian saying he canonically has no eyes, just holes), Void claws and talons, and just the generally kreechur-y vibes, lol! (Well, and the Void Core you can't see under his little poncho thingy... That's why he's kinda a dark to lighter gradient from there out ;D) I also love the way the metal and glow effects turned out, literally so pretty and adds so much "oomph" to the design!!!

Hermit-A-Day May - Day 29: Skizzleman

Day 29 is Skizz!!! Probably my second favorite Hermit currently too!

RMAU Skizz is an Angel, and Impulse's Antipode. I know I've been doing a lot of explaining about my lore here most days, but I'm... Kinda blanking on the Angel lore right now, lol, and I also know they're some of the ones I've talked about the most, so you can check out my pinned masterpost for the Angel lore I guess...

So. Skizz is the other design, alongside Impulse, that I've had mostly done before HADM this year. However - right as the month started, I decided I was going to add a few details things to his design. I got the scars added before the Disaster, but didn't get around to the glow and extra metal effects before I lost my original canvas. And then I didn't feel like doing a whole lot of drawing again today, and certainly not redrawing THIS whole complicated design, so I just added the details on top of the screenshot I had. Unfortunately, that affected the visual quality a little, so I'm adding the image I had before at the bottom too, so you can see details a little better! I am still super pleased with how the design turned out overall, and I'll probably redraw everything at some point so he looks a little clearer.

(also, like Impulse, there are two scars that are slightly differently colored and have Lore Relevance somewhere on Skizz, if you can spot them! ;D Also, feel free to ask me about what his OR Impulse's Galactic markings mean!!!)

Hmmmm... comparing the two designs, I think the glow is turned up a little high in the first piece - I might tune it down a little when I eventually redraw him... Oh well! ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

Hermit-A-Day May - Day 19: ZombieCleo

ZombieCleo today!!!

So... I don't know how RMAU-canon this particular alt skin is... But I HAD to draw it anyways... Because I've wanted to draw Medusa!Cleo since I first got into Hermitcraft and saw this skin... And I ADORE the way she turned out!!! I took some inspiration from a few other peoples' art, particularly the concept of the skeleton boning jewelry... I did it a little differently, but I absolutely adored the concept and had to include it.

The snakes are Brazilian Rainbow Boas!!! They're very pretty snakes that gave me Cleo vibes... And I almost forgot to add their eyes while drawing them lol, but I caught it last second, and also added the glow to Cleo's eyes as well... It looks cool and adds to the Medusa vibes! But yeah, I absolutely ADORE how this turned out!!! I think this is another of my favorite designs so far!!!!!

...hmm... Perhaps RMAU Cleo has some sort of magic, in addition to being a Zombie Hybrid, mostly used for her Armor Stand "sculptures", but she used it to achieve this Medusa look??? I kinda like that??? Perhaps we'll go with that...

(also this is a few hours later than normal cause I got distracted building a really gorgeous Sakura/Cherry Blossom tree in Minecraft with my friends and completely missed my usual posting time XD - it's crazy seeing what I've learned from the Hermits about building, particularly organics/flora, without even really doing much practicing!!! This Sakura tree is my first free-form build even remotely like this, and I really do think it looks gorgeous! Also, surprise, Nether brick blocks make for great detail blocks with cherry logs!)

Hermit-A-Day May - Day 24: JoeHills

Well howdy! It's Day 24 and that means Joe Hills!!!

So. RMAU Joe is something called an Unknown. The Unknown aren't exactly your typical species - any being can become an Unknown, because Unknown are created when a being or group of beings reach a certain level of "resonance" with the universe. There are some complete species that do fall under the Unknown as a species, but there are also plenty of individuals. Joe has never shared what he was Before becoming an Unknown, or how long ago that was, and he never really does anything that gives it away either. He's just Joe Hills, something Unknown. He can also use his abilities as an Unknown to either "astral project" as a Jhost (BeetleJhost? I don't know the Jhost lore) or "possess" the Juppet, or, as in the case of the drawing, something sort of both, XD.

I was originally just gonna draw Joe in a bright green suit for today, but then I got this idea right as I was about to start drawing, and, well... I was sold. Especially once I realized I hadn't drawn the most recent Juppet design either. But yeah, I really enjoyed drawing this, it was a lot of fun!!! And also went really fast, I've finished this in the about two hours since finishing TFC 30 minutes late, AND taking a break, so I think I spent MAYBE an hour and a half on this total??? Anyways, it's felt really fast, but I'm also super proud of it, so that means this style is getting easier and I'm discovering faster ways to do things - YAY!

Hermit-A-Day May - Day 27: Welsknight

Day 27 for Wels!!!

So! Wels is the one who's gotten a Lore update while trying to figure out a design to draw for HADM this year... RMAU Wels is still a human, but... Wels' homeworld has a very unique living metal. A metal that will resonate with certain people, certain Knights-to-be, and a metal from which they will ceremonially forge armor that is bound to their soul, leading to them being called Soul-forged! This Soul-forged Armor will take on a glow/aura when they want it to or they're truly in a fighting "groove". I think they'd have a matching weapon (typically a sword, and definitely a sword for Wels), but I didn't draw one this time... Also, this Soul-forged nature also applies to Hels, as Wels' clone! This nature is ALSO why Hels is a Warped Version of Wels - the status of being Soul-forged interfered with the cloning process.

I had a lot of fun redrawing Wels, and adding the effects to the metal as well as the cape and the glow. I debated making the plume on his helmet blue as well, but decided instead to stick with the canon-red, since it's both canon AND helped balance out the blue and helped retain the "knight" vibes. I'm really pleased with how he turned out though, and think he deserved a fun Lore tidbit that I had fun giving him!!!
