I haven’t been active on tumblr latey ‘cause of the heavy memory usage here in my laptop’s case. The poor thing needs some air now that its disc space is suffocatingly low. Not only that, it uses an outdated Mac OS X 10.6.8. I’m still self-fundraising for a new external hard drive to back up my stuff. Anyhooty, to anyone (who cares), I’ll now be uploading vintage Filipiniana (AKA stuff from my country before the mid-1970s at least). Those may be images I picked up somewhere like the Facebook group Manila Nostalgia (credit will be given of course) or heck photos of my private collection (which is still shamefully measly). More importantly, I’ll be putting up photos of things from the place I volunteer at: a heritage house with the biggest darndest collection of old magazines! The Rosendo Mejica Collection. You’ll be seeing stuff hardly accessible on the Internet like old covers of Philippines Free Press magazines and local ads from yesteryear. Other than that, I’d like to give a spotlight to vintage Philippine illustration, so there’ll also be old cartoon strips like Mang Ambo (English: Mr. Ambo) or illustrated commercials of local brands like PureFoods. But just to give some distinction, I’ll put up specific tags for such. What I really expect is for someone to come out of the woodworks and give a shout out on who the illustrator might be, because many of these works, sadly, are unsigned. So here’s my first upload of a Philippine illustration: an ad of Tancho, a brand of Japanese pomade my grandfather used to use, dated from the June 11, 1970 issue of The Sunday Times.
