FYI
Just a reminder that the US army murdered ten children in Afghanistan on their way out during the final evacuation two weeks ago. The US army is responsible for the deaths of thousands of children in the middle east and Iraq.
To use the very real pain and suffering of the people living in Iraq and Afghanistan, to use the deaths of their children - often caused by the US army - to exploit their deaths for cheap Hollywood drama and writing a ‘white savior’ narrative about the pain of American soldiers who are in large part responsible for the suffering of these people - is offensive, disgusting, xenophobic and racist. This is a trope that has been derided several times and people have pointed out again and again, why this is problematic. And it still continues to show up.
Roswell New Mexico has had several such issues this season - their white supremacist now has amnesia so it’s all ok nonsense, their ‘not all cops’ BLM storyline and now this. Folks have spoken up about the other issues before, and I am now pointing out how offensive Alex’s entire speech was about this Iraqi child being killed by evil brown men and the white guy is sad and then avenged him - and because the racist writers can’t tell different groups of brown people apart, Alex was apparently hunting Taliban in Iraq - he’s as much of an idiot as GW Bush.
I have seen folks gushing over this scene because Malex and I get it - Americans/Westerners don’t usually give a damn the about the death and destruction caused by US wars in other countries. They are only brought up in terms of hard it is for the American soldier, not the dead children and their parents.
I am just pointing out that this is an offensive trope and to at the least use CW and warnings over your gifsets as you cry over how much the death of an Iraqi child made Alex realize his love for Michael. Thanks.
