The heart or the pump of the body consists of two ventricles and two atria supplied by the Right and Left coronary arteries which are visible in the photo. Any transient or complete obstruction within the vessels will lead to angina or MI (Myocardial infarction) respectively. The obstruction is usually what is known as an atheroma or plaque composed primarily of fatty cells. What's interesting is that these atheroma start developing within our vessels as soon as teenage and continue till death, so a variety of factors will either aggravate or slow down the process resulting in angina/MI.
