Geralt had just finished giving Roach a good bath. Sleeves and pants rolled, gloves and boots off, even his hair in a pony tail, Geralt had scrubbed this mare til she was squeaky clean, free of sweat and monster blood stains. He wiped his forehead of sweat and gave a soft smirk as he watched his mare drink from the water. Bathing with just water was pretty hard but Geralt managed. But when Roach lifted her head and booped his nose with soaked and half slobbery lips, he gave a grunted and a slight grossed out face only to wipe it away and simply speak two words..

Yep.. Those two famous words. But he loved the mare. He dare not part with her. He simply returned a soft kiss to her horse cheek and scratched her neck.

Why did Geralt name his horse Roach?

"Origanally..I didn't want to get too attached to the beast. But Roach, well..shes my best friend. Its hard to explain.. So..Mun? Take the wheel here."

His use of the name "Roach" actually points to a term of endearment in the central European country. 

"Płotka" is the original Polish (and feminine-gendered) term for a horse, and the name's feminine-alignment underscores Geralt's preference across The Witcher universe for mares over stallions. "Płotka" is also an informal or nickname version of the word "płoć," which literally translates to "roach" or the laxer "roachy."

The formation of a strong, emotional bond between man and mare seems only natural in light of the demands coupled with the ostracization and alienation Geralt regularly experiences from those around him.
