summertime fun...hanging out on their roadmonkey-salesforce bamboo playground in vietnam #bethecatalystforhope #aidexpedition #roadmonkey #salesforcefoundation
"Life is more fun if you play games." #roadmonkey's bamboo playground standing strong (literally) one year later! #bethecatalystforhope #roadmonkey
The mothers in our community recently added one meter of sand in the playground area to keep the children safe (and provide a soft landing). It's now been reopened and the kids couldn't be happier to play on their Roadmonkey bamboo playground...now they're just waiting for all of you to come join them! #bethecatalystforhope #roadmonkey #salesforcefoundation
"Cam on Roadmonkey!" here are the children sending out a big "thank you" to the volunteers and all of our awesome donors! We raised almost $4500 on #givingtuesday and our matching challenge continues! www.catalystfoundation.org/donate. #roadmonkey #bethecatalystforhope
"Let there be water! The Ragali have always been denied access to drinking water by their Kinh neighbors. Instead of being able to tap into the water lines of the Kinh, the Ragali would have to hike 3 hours up a mountain to get drinking water. The Ragali finally have access to the most basic of needs: WATER." Thank you for all your support..Phase 1 of our sustainable water plan for the community is DONE! Thank you to the amazing team from Roadmonkey and First Descents! What a GREAT group of volunteers - they carried water pipes through the jungle, up a mountain, in 95'F + weather, dug trenches to bury the pipe and never once did anything but smile!
Group Adventures
Some people dream of traveling, and wish to do so without spending a fortune, without pulling hairs from making arrangements, and want to travel with friends (or make new ones!). I am one of these people.
There is help:
RoadMonkey Expeditions all over the world, with a focus on the less developed areas. Challenges yourself outdoors on a trip, as well as help the community with volunteer projects.
Monsoon Diaries Group tours aimed at the young professional lifestyle: short trips, affordable, and fun. They have visited many roads less traveled, including Antarctica, Egypt, Honduras...
Contiki More mainstream group travel for 18-35 year-olds. They arrange week long trips to popular destinations, such as hopping across Europe with nights in hotels.
This is a list of travel planners I find. I will add more as come across them, and write my own reviews when I have tried them. Would welcome stories you share as well.
Adventurers Who Travel Different: Roadmonkey, Vietnam
Roadmonkey: Adventure Philanthropy.
I'm really loving all the "adventure travel with purpose" opportunities that I've been coming across lately. You get to see the world from a more unique point of view, and make someone else's life a little bit better at the same time.
Roadmonkey provides adventure philanthropy tours to exotic corners of the world.
Build a school in India + experience the Ganesh Festival firsthand.
Build a community garden in Nicaragua + learn to surf.
Build an organic garden in Zanzibar + scale Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Build a kids' soccer field and take a bike tour through the Mekong Delta.
Build a greenhouse for an Andean village + go white-water rafting in Peru.
These are incredible, incredible experiences. Simple lodging and food is included in the tour, and you really get a chance to experience life alongside the locals. It seems like Roadmonkey has set up partnerships with some great organizations to help out local communities and share their cultures, while finding a way to give travelers a little kick of adrenaline as well.
Tours last 1-2 weeks and are limited to small teams so you can get a full, immersive experience. Be ready to get your hands dirty.
