Goodbye Bali! While I really enjoyed our time here, I'm still not entirely sure what to make out of this place. It's definitely not the paradise island it used to be when the first generation of backpackers and surfers started to arrive here. 🚗 Bali is congested, crowded and heavily polluted. It's a rather small island inhabited by over 4 million people (don't forget to add all the tourists). 🔥 People here like to burn plastic rubbish everywhere so you constantly inhale the toxic fumes while driving around. 🦀 Everything revolves around tourism here. You are constantly being offered all sorts of goods and services. Massaaaaaaz!! ☀️ Still Bali has its charm, there are plenty of beautiful sights, ancient temples, rice terraces and crazy monkeys... Obviously it's also a perfect surfing destination. P.S. The beer and local people are very nice as well. P.P.S. Unfortunately, this is a very common sight in Bali. As you can imagine a good part of that ends up in the ocean. It is heartbreaking to see plastic rubbish floating in the water. Every year, 5-13 million tonnes of plastic go into the world's oceans. Only 5 Asian countries—China, Indonesia, The Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam—dump more plastic into the oceans than all other countries combined. #indonesia #environmental #issues #plasticworld #pollution #roarroadstrip (at Bali, Indonesia)
