Spencer and Messina are very likable, especially in the case of Spencer I got at times the feeling she was just being her pleasant herself. But the two aren't able to save the tonal mismatches of the movie. The situations along the roadtrip are mostly awkward, and especially the lighter scenes are unfunny and miss the beat. When the real drama gets revealed towards the end it feels insincere.
