Robb had just gotten out of a relationship when he and Margaery hooked up, Sansa, his sister/ her roommate, their friends, and most of his family members thinks it was a bad idea and makes fun of him. He makes it clear that it was a one time deal and she agreed. Sansa later hears her roommate crying that night and realizes despite outward appearances - her friend really liked her brother.

So that the people of the North would know their future Lady of Winterfell and she know the people.
