Louis and Bebe Barron wrote the score for Forbidden Planet. It was entirely electronic in a pre-synth era. They used tapes to create the sounds. This is referred to as 'Musique Concrete'. Althought their score drew critical praise, the American Federation Of Musicians prevented them from receiving proper credit for the soundtrack. In my opinion these electronic pioneers never got the recognition they deserved. It's their abstact tape manipulations that makes Forbidden Planet so out of this world and special.
