Gargoyles Comics Enter New Era

Dynamite Entertainment has announced the start of the next era of Gargoyles comics. Set in 1997, the new Gargoyles #1 is written by Greg Weisman, illustrated by Gerardo Gambone, colored by Robby Bevard, and lettered by Jeff Eckleberry.

"The titular Gargoyles only have eggs every 20 years, and the Manhattan Clan at the center of the saga have been keeping care of one playfully nicknamed "Egwardo." The only problem is — it's been stolen by arch-enemy Demona! As the Defenders of the Night try desperately to track down the egg, they're also faced with an awakened ancient, all-powerful evil with a vendetta against the entire world." (Dynamite Entertainment)

Gargoyles #1 goes on sale in August 2026. Covers for the debut issue are by Meghan Hetrick, Sebastian Piriz, Drew Moss, and Frank Paur. The debut issue will also be sold in premium mystery blind bags containing three copies of the issue and featuring limited edition covers and exclusive variations.

The Demona miniseries was terrific! But #5 in particular was the best single issue of any Gargoyles comic across Marvel, SLG, and Dynamite. And if you include the show, is a top five Gargoyles story. Period. Maybe even a top three Gargoyles story! Do yourself a favor and read this miniseries!

Demona Headlines in New "Gargoyles" Comic Book Series

Dynamite Entertainment and Disney are partnering on a new comic book series following Gargoyles' Demona. Gargoyles: Demona is written by Gargoyles co-showrunner and supervising producer Greg Weisman, illustrated by Gargoyles co-showrunner Frank Paur (who pitched the idea for, and collaborated with, Weisman on Gargoyles: Demona), editor Nate Cosby, and colorist Robby Bevard.

Gargoyles: Demona "chronicles a thousand years of adventure, as Demona and those close to her change through time, and she evolves into the character that fans know from Gargoyles stories set in the more recent era of 1998. Much of this time, the core Manhattan Clan cast were frozen in place as statues, so this lengthy era of Demona's wandering has not been delved into as deeply. The first issue flashes all the way back to shortly after the year 994 amidst the "Dark Ages," starting Demona's quest for vengeance against Canmore that will last for centuries. ...

Blessed, or more aptly cursed, with immortality, each issue will jump to five key glimpses into Demona's turbulent life. Fans will, for the first time, meet Angelika, Demona's other, mysterious daughter. Not possessing the same immortality as her mother, the duo's lives will intertwine in beautiful and tragic ways. What happens when a mother is frozen by time and is forced to watch her daughter age past her? And as the series reaches its conclusion, fans will get to see how Angelika and Angela compare, as well as the larger tragedy of Demona's life." (Dynamite Entertainment)

Gargoyles: Demona can be previewed with a prologue in a Free Comic Book Day (May 3, 2025) release.

Gargoyles: Demona #1 goes on sale in May 2025. The debut issue sports a main cover by Frank Paur and variant covers by Meghan Hetrick, Jae Lee, and Mark Spears.
