RANT TIME!!!
Concerning Robby and Mohan in the newest episode!!
Did anyone else notice how Robby’s reaction to Ogilvie’s mistake and Robby’s reaction to Mohan’s mistake are clearly paralleled in this latest episode?
Mohan clocks it, you can see it on her face. She can tell that he is treating that young white man with twice as much grace as he has ever treated her with.
Obviously, she was the one in charge so she very much has some blame but he completely shrugs off Ogilvie’s DEADLY mistake but he is extremely harsh to Mohan over a smaller mistake of communicating clearly during a case.
I just think it’s interesting how clear they are making it that Robby has some internal biases he needs to examine, I think it’s really brave of a show to depict unconscious biases in their main character and I’m glad they aren’t shying away from it.
Robby is a flawed person and it’s okay to have to examine that and fix it, but it is a problem and it does require fixing. And at the same time Mohan doesn’t deserve this and shouldn’t have to put up with it.
I also think it’s interesting how Robby clearly latched on to Whitaker (and Langdon before Whitaker) and he is the only white man in his group of new Med Students and Interns.
There’s also the fact that Mohan reminds Robby of himself and he doesn’t like that about her so I think all of this together creates a really delicious tension between these characters, from a writing perspective.
Not all my thoughts are super ironed out about this yet but I thought these were some details that were worth pointing out
Anywho RANT OVER
