i finally finished the most recent issue and I NEED TO SCREAM ABOUT IT AND DONT THINK I COULD BE COHERENT ENOUGH TO MAKE A WHOLE POST IM SORRY.
Marc Finally acknowledging the mission team as something like his family??? Hello??? Are we also including 8-Ball Jeff in that?? And the scene where he outright says 'I love her' about Greer??? I AM A PUDDLE. CLEANUP AISLE DEE'S EMOTIONS. (I'm honestly not the most shippy person for a lot of reasons but I am. Slowly becoming very sappy for them I'm ngl.)
ALSO is it just me or does Marc have A LOT of plans that essentially just boil down to crashing a vehicle into something??? I can count at least two that I know of, three depending on what you count the scene where he crashes a motorcycle into the Mission while being chased by the mercenaries from the structure in the 2021 run, but I have a strange feeling there's more that I just don't know about. (... I'm gonna have to add it to the list of potential chatfic chapters.. ain't I.)
Anyway this issue gave me much feelings and I now need to know your own.
I KNOW YOU SENT THIS ASK SO LONG AGO BUT THINGS GOT BUSY IM SO SORRY DEE
A cut here because there is SO much
As you said: He FINALLY called them family. He is finally recognizing and saying that they're all family after FIVE YEARS. It took FIVE YEARS and TWO DEATHS for him (being blown up and Fairchild) to call them family. LETS GO!!!!
It also continues the theme of this installation of Moon Knight being about how he's not alone, and him coming to face with his fear of being alone---how he'll fight and kill and attack for his family to be safe, because the last time he didn't do that, everything fell apart. He didn't fight hard enough for Frenchie, or Marlene, Gena, Crawley, Ricky, Ray, all of them, so now that he has a family back, he'll do anything for them.
...It's also very similar to how the Mission reacts to whenever he disappears! So they're very similar on how they freak out about each other's disappearances! I'm sure that's not a worrisome thing! (codependency final boss)
(On the same notion: I don't think people recognize enough that MK's death was like two months ago... Max? He died for a month, Blood Hunt happened, he appeared, they lost the Midnight Mission for a week or so, and then he vanished for two weeks. So whenever someone says they're being "too possessive" or "toxic"---wouldn't you be if someone you saw as family came back from the dead, only to throw himself back into the wringer again and again and again? Wouldn't you think that all of your grief filled bargaining worked, and now you have to pray that he stays alive? That everyone in the system stays alive? That it's now up to you to ensure he doesn't leave again, because what if it happens? You don't want to sit shiva again. You don't want to taste Ben Grimm's green bean casserole, or look at his tear filled eyes or anything about him because all he reminds you of is death. The way Clea's face drops sometimes reminds you of death. Clint Barton's presence, the only time you've met him, is him consoling Greer in the corner as she cries---and what are you going to do about that? You can't do anything. Another partner of hers is dead, and your family is broken. Yehya curses the world. Soldier feels at fault because he didn't work fast enough. Reese feels abandoned and left behind with too much responsibility on her shoulders. 8Ball feels lost and guilt ridden, knowing he just hid in the vents the entire time when he should have been helping. Where does that leave you when he's finally home?
Anyways. Food for thought.)
And PLEASE MARVEL PLEASE do not ruin this actually nice relationship between Greer and Marc. They match each other's freak, and while yes MacKay does not do Greer 100% justice in this department, this is the best romance plot Moon Knight has had since the 80s/90s. It has been thirty to forty years. I'm aro, so I don't really care, but I do recognize the fact that MK hasn't had an actual well thought out romance in a long time. And also it IS so sappy, like you said. Example I love besides this chapter: When Marc looks at Greer, who is covered in blood, grime, and gruel, with love and adoration in his eyes. Thank you Fist of Khonshu (2024). I love them.
HAHAAAA CRASHING VEHICLES INTO THINGS LETS COUNT OUT WHAT I REMEMBER DEE BECAUSE YOU. ARE. RIGHT!!! DING DING DING!!! he's blunt and cares about NOTHING your honor. Crashing things into things works like 90% of the time.
Taskmaster's "9/11" (crashed his Moon Glider into him)
As you said, the motorcycle in 2021
Using Ghost Riders car... Twice! If you count Age of Khonshu (Avengers 2018 #35) where he crashes into Carol Danvers with a weird freaky tentacle monster in the engine!
BLACK WHITE AND BLOOD: JAKE CRASHES THE CAB INTO THE HUDSON---all in caps because I just remembered this.
I don't think there were many "lets crash the Moon Copter Frenchie!" moments in the older runs because... Well. It's the Moon Copter. Why would you do that (I say that, but that's Taskmaster's "9/11" so).
And yes you do have to add it to the chatfic you're all but required to do so obviously Dee the masses crave it
My own thoughts are cut up into cryptic one liners because if I think too much about it, I will explode. So they go as follows:
I need to read more about Robbie Reyes. Oh my goodness I need more. I love him and his vibe. I love his earrings. I love him. I love that he's only helping for the idea of family. I love it all.
Robby and Blade I love their dynamic already.
This is the best Midnight Son's team up and I am not taking critique (I am not biased what do you mean)
THE ENTIRE DAREDEVIL SECTIONOOIHHmygoodness. "I can tell that you're nervous" vs the man who relies on people not being able to read him to strike fear into his enemies. The man who sees everything vs the man who doesn't want to be inwardly seen.
Shadowland jump scare oh my goodness GET AWAY FROM HERE
Blade's "you had me at Midnight Son's" HAHAAA I'm cackling. It's giving MK2021 issue #11(?) vibes with Wong and MK.
Clea being the mother. Clea being the mother. Clea being the mother. Clea being
Clea. Everything about her. She's so cool. She's so cool. "Shadow touched." Clea. Clea. Clea. Clea. Clea.
Chivalry isn't dead with Daredevil opening the back for Clea to go in first! He's a gentleman folks.
...And then in the same panel, MK calls shotgun. He calls SHOTGUN in the HELL CAR. I love him.
ROBBY REYES' CLOWN CAR ROBBY REYES' CLOWN CAR (it reminds me of my 2007 honda fit I have. And yes she DOES have eyelashes if you were wondering.)
Everything about them being in the car. People who hate each other and yet respect and admire each other being shoved into the most close quarters vehicle known to man kind. I love the trope. Can we make a camping/roadtrip fic now. Throw in some one-bed too?
The entire section of them being jammed into the car reminds me of when my family and I used to pack our family van full of people to go sledding. A car for 6 max quickly fit almost 10: Mom and dad up front, my uncle in the middle on the floor beside two others, me and my brother and two other's in the back, and I think we put someone in the trunk before. Also reminds me of my own clown car going anywhere with my friends. It's me and my friend up front acting like actual adults, and then the three in the back gaggling about whatever like children. There's nothing else like it.
Mansion Ravenous is the name of the elder House of Shadows (TM) and I'm still not over how cool that name is.
This entire team up is the rule of cool and I haven't felt this way since Moon Knight (2021) and Doctor Strange (2023).
