Sociopath Profile: Mr. Kōbe
Shio and Asahi’s father Corrupted form from Asahi’s memories on right, real appearance left From the manga series Happy Sugar Life (2015-2019) and its 2018 anime adaptation Voiced by Eiji Miyashita Requested by @robbyrobinson
Kōbe is easily the worst parent or parental figure in this entire series. To call him a parent is giving him too much praise. He easily fits the model of a low-functioning sociopath in the process.
TRIGGER WARNING: mentions of rape and domestic abuse throughout.

Religion and War
Did read this by (www.deviantart.com/opinionspro…). Most of their points I do agree with even if I don't necessarily hold religions as the primary reason for most wars, but the Crusades, Spanish Inquisition...spot on there.
Really takes me back to what the late Christopher Hitchens said on how religion poisons everything. With religion, sure you can say that you have people who do good in the name of their religion...but I feel that's only because I personally hold that human beings have an inherent good within them that through ever means their upbringing determines whether they act on it or not. People that do good in the name of religion doesn't really matter as long as something good came from it even though I feel they are doing it for the wrong reasons.
Like take Mother Teresa: she was doing her deeds to increase the rankings of her Catholic church; she was against birth control; believed that pain and suffering meant that the person was closer to god, despite receiving treatment herself. I won't call her evil, but she was one of the examples of people who do good because their religion mandated it. They believe that they will be rewarded by God for doing these good works which is selfish entirely.
Religion I feel isn't entirely bad, but I do feel that the world would be better off without it. I feel that it gives false promises as answers for life such as the whole idea that there is an afterlife where you would be reunited with deceased loved ones. A good thought, but is not provable. At best, I think it doesn't comfort the people who lost loved ones and instead builds up their hope (not to mention there being thousands of religions that say different things about what to expect after death; all cannot be reasonably true). That, and the idea of an afterlife devalues this life because rather than just appreciate what time you have left with the only life you KNOW you'll have, it instead adds baggage of people who desperately want this life to be over so they can go to the afterlife. It's like a rose: on Earth, a rose is a beautiful flower, but if I were to tell you that flowers from an entirely different plane of existence are more gorgeous, that cheapens the experience. Like take infamous cults like Heaven's Gate for instance.
Religion to me is like money: not inherently bad, but people have used it to justify their prejudices and phobias (like how American Family Radio is a biased, anti-gay/anti-pro-choice branch of the American Family Association). Several parts of the Bible for instance were used by slaveholders to justify their treatment of slaves. And there’s Exodus 20 with how Hebrews were permitted to take slaves from the heathens around them and that they could beat them as long as they don’t die from it. There are several apologetics that are used to try to explain it away, but they all blatantly fail. There is a compilation of the common arguments on RationalWiki for that one. Or how because the Bible is critical on homosexuality, that had led to several parents either throwing their children out of their homes or sending them to straight camps or subject them to torturous anti-gay conversion which is proven to be psychologically damaging.
That doesn't even begin to get into the morality question where some are so absorbed into their religious convictions, they legitimately believe that if God did not exist, then they'd go out r*ping and killing everything. That is a horrifying ideology to have and I guess it's better that they keep their religious beliefs. Ultimately, religion I won't completely call it bad, but it's also not immune to criticism and I feel that there should be fewer people who believe a religion's claims. I'm not advocating to drop religion unless for good reasons. Dropping religions like Christianity because you're angry with God isn't a good reason. Some become atheists for that reason, but a majority investigated the claims behind the Christian God and see that the claims don't hold up to scrutiny.
If they're always villains, how aren't Complete Monsters always antagonists?
Villain and antagonist don’t mean the same thing. A villain is a wicked character; an antagonist opposes the protagonist but is not necessarily villainous. Like Inspector Javert from Les Miserables.
…...What the fuck? Seriously, what the FUCK!? I can’t deny that there are several messed up things that O Maidens in Your Savage Season. I mean there are a lots, but episode 7 in particular, I feel takes a nose dive. There are some things here and there that are kind of cringy such as Momoko thinking about Niina’s naked body in the previous episode and how she seemed...unfazed with exposing herself like that. I mean, while I do get that the point of the series is that these changes are noticeable as they age...I’m sorry that I’m kind of squicked out with descriptions of high school girls’ bodies. You also get the usual Hitoha tries to do her teacher but fails which felt tacked on here.
There are also other issues such as how Rika is not treating her boyfriend fairly, and I deeply love this couple and I truly hope they manage to fix this mess in the later durations of the series lest they both get heartbroken, and Momoko thinking more about how she found girls as more pretty and easier to understand than men. That’s nice. And after the seeds representing Izumi and Kazusa’s relationship were sown, we are getting development on the two at long last. I especially love how the train souvenir symbolized their relationship. But then...we get our spanner in the works.
That being Niina’s creep of a former acting teacher. With him, Niina’s attraction towards him was...messed up for all intents and purposes especially because the dude is a frickin’ pedophile, but he returns to play a role in this episode. And then...that scene happens. On Niina’s request, we get a high school girl kissing a middle-aged old man on the lips. I repeat: A middle-aged man is kissing a high school girl on the lips. I felt the vomit slither up my throat from watching that. Just what the fuck, what the fuck, what the fuck am I watching? Granted, Niina only initiated the kiss because she wanted to feel something and is realistically disappointed that it was an empty feeling. But still, why? Please tell me that this is explained in the manga. I’m almost beginning to worry for Niina’s mental health.
It gets worse. I know, I know, a middle-aged man kissing an adolescent girl is bad, but...he then coerces Niina to pursue Izumi. Even when she made it clear that she did not like him in that way. Hell, Niina was pissed at Kazusa because of that belief that she assumed Kazusa would be like those other girls she knew. And yet here, through her teacher’s probing, she will pursue this endeavor.
Again, why? What exactly does she see in Izumi to potentially go behind Kazusa’s back and ruin her trust? Yeah, they both had a shared interest in transportation, but that’s really it. Why is this a new development? While she did have some understandable reasons for deciding to “make things worse” between Izumi and Kazusa because getting them together was the endgame, but here...I’ve reached the point of wanting to have fuck all to do with Niina. Maybe her decisions are based on what she experienced earlier in her life, but I see no justifiable reason to pity Niina here. Her teacher is also to blame of course for turning her over to the dark side, but her going for Izumi will largely be of her own volition. Fuck you, Niina. Fuck you.
But, otherwise, a pretty decent episode maybe somewhat padded down by filler (like the pillow fight the girls had upstairs), but the plot thickens.
Score: 6/10
So, my secondary rant after the whole Niina/Izumi conflict. With Momoko, I admit at first she seemed to be pretty static as in she had that fear of sex that her friend Kazusa had, but not as bad. To be honest, when I was getting into the show, I almost forgot that she was in the show because of how the focus was placed onto Kazusa’s feelings for Izumi; Rika getting together with Shun; and Hitoha trying to get the teacher to sleep with her. Momoko seemingly was the least developed as with Niina, until the later episodes gave her more of a purpose.
From what we had of a potential arc for Momoko started around the time she met Satoshi through happenstance. Let’s get this out of the way: I hated him. He was snobby, egotistical, and he couldn’t pick up on the fact that he was disturbing Momoko. During that time, Momoko started to question her sexuality when she saw that she was more drawn to Niina’s gorgeous features (especially the bath episode where she had inner monologues about Niina’s body, which kind of squicked me out), Eventually, it dawns on her that she had feelings for Niina, and she does eventually blow up on Satoshi when he introduced his friends to her. While I feel that if that were me in that situation, I’d go about it a different way, I nevertheless applaud Momoko for standing up for herself. So with that being said, and the eighth episode with two confessions one after the other, maybe this would mean that it came time for Momoko to confess to Niina, and possibly get together with her, right?
Wrong.
Niina instead reflects on her first love and heartbreak from helping Izumi confess to Kazusa. So, because of that, she was going to decide to have another. Momoko overhears this and is naturally concerned about the sinister undertones of it. Episode 9, she confronts Niina and asks her if she was really contemplating on taking Izumi from Kazusa and when Niina bluntly says that she didn’t know yet, Momoko decides to confess to her then and there to stop her from going down that path. But as you’d imagine, Niina rejects her, stating that she didn’t see it as right to have ess-ee-cks with a friend.
For starters, I will be the first to say that I did feel sorry for Momoko. To build up the courage and then confess to the person you love only to be rejected is sad, but you’d have to get back up and work to find someone who reciprocates your feelings. Momoko not taking the rejection well is an understatement. She refuses to accept the reality of the situation and instead tries to continue with the notion that Niina was in the wrong about her feelings for Izumi and that she’d try to help her out of this. This to me is one of the most selfish moments in the anime so far. Instead of just accepting that Niina only saw her as a friend, she’d rather try to push a lie as far as it could go regardless of whether Niina would be hurt by this. It goes beyond the point of sympathy for me. All I see is an entitled girl who is enraged that she isn’t getting her way and prioritizes her own feelings over her friend’s.
